    TKR Slow Progress With Walking

Welcome, Victoria! :welome: Congratulations on your new knee! I'm sorry your knee is giving way (buckling) unexpectedly. That can be quite frightening. I know how it feels because I had the same problem after LTKR. I couldn't return to work until 18 weeks post op for that reason. But, guess...

TKR And the Beat Goes On in Jazzabelle's Recovery

Generally, as soon as your leg is strong enough to do a straight leg raise. I used the immobilizer straps to hoist my surgical leg in and out of bed until my leg was strong enough to lift itself. For my first TKR- a few weeks. Second TKR- a few days. I removed the brace once I was up and about...

    Pain after surgery

As you've no doubt read on this forum, some of us skipped formal PT and had excellent recoveries.

Ice Packs and Electric Blanket - anybody else do this?

While icing I used an electric heating pad (kind of a large one) on my torso and arms under a soft blanket. It really helped with the shivers. I haven't iced in over a year but I still love and use that heating pad!

    Pain after surgery

@diatom try http://www.aspengoldmedical.com/EBI-Cold-Therapy-Compatible-Pads--Knee-Shoulder-Back--Biomet-Burke-Medical-_p_89.html. Seems crazy expensive for an ice pad!

    Pain after surgery

Try not to worry, Gettysburg. Nowadays many surgeons tuck a little pain relief directly into the knee during the operation, and you'll have an IV for meds, too. Be frank with your RN about your concerns- s/he sincerely wants you to be comfortable and happy throughout your hospital stay. I was...

    TKR 6 months still stiff

Yes, I had periodic stiffness for a full year after each TKR. After that everything gradually improved. Science tells us that bone remodeling (healing) continues for a few months to a few years after fracture. Extrapolate that information to your leg bones that were very definitely sawed and...

    Hinged Joint 8 month regression^

PT stressed me out, too, though my therapists were much nicer than yours. After my second TKR I managed this stress by not doing formal PT at all. Instead I practiced my own little daily routine of heel slides, ankle pumps, stationary bike, etc. Eventually (after 6 1/2 weeks) I scheduled a few...

Has anyone been able to run again after new knees?

Hi, I do a little (very little) trail running and it feels fine. I mostly hike, though. I will run more when I lose 20#. A funny thing happened when I first attempted to "run" after TKR- I couldn't. My feet would not cooperate with my brain. So I practiced hopping from foot to foot for a while...

TKR Fibular Head Pain, Stopping Recovery<

I had some "grabby" pains behind my knee after RTKR, so sharp I would gasp and stop in my tracks. My OS said, "irritated tissues" and really that's all it was. I hope you get similar good news from your OS.

Revision TKR Third and final surgery all done

Following TKR it took approximately two years (yes, two years!) for my quads to feel completely "back to normal". Your mileage may vary. :egypdance:

    PKR Susieb64 - EUREKA!!!!

Don't worry, you'll be strong again in due time. I agree with JDP's comment above- just keep engaging your quad. I had severe weakness after my first TKR. My quad was so sleepy it wouldn't respond to even the strongest e-stim. It was a limp noodle. Eventually my quad did wake up, and yours will...
