Seven and a half months out and progress is still ongoing.
I can walk 3-4 miles now on level trails. Some steep hills with walking sticks.
Bike riding is perfect.
Doing all activities with no problems. Gardening, walking, and stairs.
No Tylenol or meds for pain.
No swelling or stiffness...
Thanks for the responses. Some days I feel like progress and other days it feels sooooo slow. I have found new friends at a gentle water exercise class at our local pool. Everyone there has had a joint replacement. It’s like BoneSmart with the encouragement plus they can give me practical...
Surgery January 8th, 2018. Twenty weeks post surgery.
I reread the 16 week posts as I was feeling there had been no progress this month. There was progress thank goodness.
Walking 2.5 miles on uneven surfaces.
Climbed a steep hill.
Bike ride for 11 miles.
Gentle pool exercise 3 times a...
Surgery January 8th, 2018. Sixteen weeks out.
What a difference in a month. About 14 weeks the tiredness was gone.
I can now bike for 3 miles with my electric bike.
Swim class 3 days a week.
Walk 1.5 miles.
No more naps.
PT has ended after 30 sessions.
My surgeon was pleased with my...
12.5 weeks out from TKA
Life is returning to normal and for that I am grateful.
Positives:
Up and down stairs with no pain. Before TKA it was unbearable and I had to drag myself hand over hand up the rail.
Went out to dinner with friends. Knee elevated on a chair for comfort.
Walking 5000...
9.5 weeks out from TKA
There is life at the end of this journey. Every week brings improvements.
I drove to PT for the first time.
Walking is getting easier with less stiffness.
ROM was 0/113. Exercises and stretches two times a day. No pain just pushing into the stretches.
Only pain is...
Week 8 of recovery: positive achievements
Drove my car in the neighborhood
Gave up walker in the house, using walking poles on our road
Increasing length of walks
Only using Tylenol 1000 mg per day times 2
Gaining weight ( this is a good thing )
Gaining more energy, still 2 naps a day but less...
Good news. I went to my surgeon at the 6 week mark. The small drainage on the incision is a small suture abscess that will resolve on its own. He said my knee looked great, that many of his patients had a swollen, red, and a hard knee at this point. Mine is normal color with less and less...
@KarriB
Thank you for your reply. After two nights of pain I am only doing the basic flex and extension stretches. Quit the strength exercises. I would rather walk outside. Fortunately there is only one PT appointment this week.
Even on this forum there are different viewpoints. Like yours...
@SuperSnapper
Thank you for your response. I wish we had the UK attitude here.
It is normal here to start PT one day post op aggressively bending and flexing the knee. My discharge instructions were 90 degrees by 3 weeks and 116 degrees by 6 weeks. PT is done three times a week with Home PT...
Six week report.
Reading the forum I feel about right in recovery.
First the tough parts:
Sleeping is harder this week as PT is getting more intense. Aching at night. With only Tylenol for pain there is a delicate balance in too much or to little PT. Slept on the hard floor last night. Weird...
PT started doing some gentle manipulations on Monday. I was scared silly as our forum has such horror stories about PT forcing your knee. I took the advice here and said when I say stop, you stop. Also I held on to my thigh as the PT did gentle passive knee bends. That way as soon as the Knee...
Thank you for your great reports. I am five weeks out and your recommendations are spot on. It is so hard not to overdo when your head says let’s do it. Your Knee let’s you know and your Knee is always in control.
