THR End of stem pain starting 4 months after THR

Apparently the technique of cutting off the stem tip is called "Distal femoral stem tip resection" and I also read about it online. No idea if it is a good idea or not! But I never heard about this plan with cadaver bone and wire.

THR End of stem pain starting 4 months after THR

@NewCreature Wow! just checking in after being away from Bonesmart for a while. I had the exact same pain (when pain was at its worst, it was at point in walking cycle of stepping OFF the leg). Very interested in what you discover. I had right THR replacement 1.5 years ago. Right now, pain is...

THR Thigh pain during walking last 10 years

Hi @Nancy Hips. I am about 1.5 years out from right THR. I have not been able to get to the bottom of continued pain. In my case the pain is cumulative (more I walk, the more pain). At one point it got so bad I was on crutches. Oddly, in that case the pain was greatest as I stepped OFF the leg...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

@Layla thanks for checking in. My bone scan results were somewhat ambiguous, as the surgeon predicted they might be. It is too close in time to the surgery so some of the activity seen in it could be the result of the surgery, or it could be the result of a loose stem. He said the scan wasn’t...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

@AJinNH - Haven't checked in for awhile. Just now seeing your note. Definitely interested as my worst thigh pain also coincided with some back problems, which I thought was coincidental. Right now during Coronavirus work-at-home the thigh pain is down and I can walk around the house without a...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

Thanks for your supportive comments. I've spoken to the surgeon who confirmed that my blood work is good, so not pursuing infection angle. He is setting me up for a bone scan to see if it shows signs that might confirm a loose stem. But he also said again that my x-rays look "textbook" -- i.e...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

My thigh pain has only gotten worse. I went back to the surgeon yesterday who said we had to do more tests. When I reported to him that one of my symptoms is that the pain I get when walking is mainly when I step OFF the leg (not onto it), he did say that could be a sign of movement of the stem...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

@Fit4Family - No! Your thread wasn't what worried me. What has been worrying me for months is thigh pain as I was well-aware that this is a very common symptom of loose stem. Hearing from a person going through the experience of loose stem and a revision is quite helpful. At this point I don't...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

@Calgal: thanks for your message. Yes, the 12-month mark is important. I'm hoping to have a clearer idea of what's going on over the next several months. I just caught up on your thread and see that you've used Pilates to regain a lot of strength. Sounds like you're doing really well. I think I...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

@Fit4Family thanks for your reply. I have been watching your thread actually and you have kind of inspired me to look seriously at whether I do have a loose stem, and also helped me to face up to a revision, if it comes to that, that, and think, yes, I could do it if I have to. It helps me to...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

Thanks @Celle for changing the thread name. Thanks @Elf1 for your comments. If I walk too much without the cane, I get the thigh pain. That's pretty constant. But I'm thinking that it doesn't seem muscular because other actions that use the quads don't cause pain (I can ride a bike without pain...

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

Hello. I haven't posted in a while. Please change my thread name to "continuing thigh pain--loose stem?" I've had thigh pain off and on since the surgery almost 8 months ago. At this point it is the main thing that holds me back from walking without a cane outside. I figured I must have a loose...

Revision THR Hope for 2020, Revised THR

Congratulations @Fit4Family. I have been following your story. So even beyond the regular posters -- you have another group of less-vocal well-wishers cheering you on. Sounds like your patience, energy, and persistence in fighting this thing through is now paying off.

THR Continuing thigh pain, loose stem?

Hi @Fit4Family: I do have a desk job. I'll try paying attention to stretching more. I had my own melt-down last night after slipping on the carpeted stairs and falling on my bum. My hip seemed OK but I managed to sprain my big toe on my other foot (non-operated side). I am completely fed up...

Revision THR Hope for 2020, Revised THR

@Fit4Family — I am at 4 months and still experiencing hobbling knee problems in operated leg and a veritable circus of pain that travels around. Still using cane. I also had previous pinning from fracture. But I don’t think those are symptoms of failed implant. We need to wait this out. It’s...
