THR Surgeon telling me to wait due to BMI 45 - he only performs posterior

Hi Ottamiway, I agree with getting a 2nd opinion. My BMI is above 40 also and the surgeon that did my Bi-Lateral core decompression at the same BMI refused to do my THR. I was able to find a different OS, and he said that while yes it is better to be a lower weight, but you have to get it...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

Hi everyone. Had my preop blood tests & EKG done today. Everything was good except my blood pressure was all over the place. Not surprising since I was anxious about something going wrong today and that it would get cancelled. UGH.. The hospitalist said she did not see any reason for the...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

Hi everyone. I haven't been on much because I was really getting depressed about my weight loss and surgery. Well my original OS was very adamant about me losing the weight and it didn't seem to matter to her how much I had already lost and how much pain I was in, (they even told me that TLHR...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

Hi Mojo333, Belated Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you as well. No, the OS told me on 10/22 that she wanted me to lose 30 lbs., and when I weighed in on 12/3, I had only lost almost 20, so she postponed the surgery to March 16th. It sucks, and my pain has increased, but it is what it is...

THR New hip on November 25th

I got an ice machine when I had my first shoulder replacement, and it is awesome. Also saw a post recently that is going to make it even better. The post suggested using 4 frozen water bottles in place of the loose ice to help it stay cooling longer. I had a pain ball for both of my shoulders...

    CD after partial collapse?

I agree with all the above advice. I had bilateral CD on my hips in January of this year, and the recovery was longer and more painful than when I had my shoulders replaced. My OS said that CD wasn't even an option once it starts to collapse. Anyway, since then, the CD took in my right hip...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

@leejaa & VSlowLife, I had joined WW almost a year and a half ago because I wanted to lose weight for myself. Thought I had finally got to the place in my life where it was going to work. Well, I lost weight and never felt deprived or anything, and then fell off the wagon. I know I can do...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

So I got the surgery date set for the 16th of December. However I have to lose some weight first. I've done it before without starving myself, just have to get myself in the mindset that it will help me in the long run and help me heal faster and be safer during surgery. Also get to go on our...

THR Hip Replacement in my future

Looking forward to my appointment tomorrow with the OS. While the Tramadol/Tylenol routine worked for a little bit, it's sure not working as well anymore. I have started to have pain at the top of my thigh in front. This is different that the pain in my groin and hip area. Something else I...

    Need a nickel free implant

I have Titanium in both of my shoulders as I am sensitive to some metals. Can't wear earrings as they tend to get infected.
