First prehab appt.

Ok...my first prehab telephone appt. is in the morning at 930. Day one of 6 off which I am in desperate need of and I can't even sleep in....geeeeesh. So.. this first one is apparently with a social worker. Anyone have any pointers for me to do with social work???

Now that my bad couple of weeks has passed....My boss asks me...."so when is your surgery??".....apparently there are some clerks who would like me to orientate them to my floor so they can have my job when I go...lol.......geeeees. My chair aint even thinkin of gettin cold yet........yikes. Well one things for sure....my spot will be well covered for as long as I need to be away....guess thats reasurring.

What a bunch of go-getters you work with!! Good luck on your telephone prehab tomorrow. Since I'm not very familiar with the Canadian health care system, I'll be interested to know what you talk about.

Good luck Nadine! I am not sure what will be discusses either. Maybe your set up at home - what might need to be adjusted for post-op recovery?

Ok.....nothin much in the telephone appt. Just talked about my support system. And there were a couple of items she wanted to touch on from the forms I filled out and sent in. One was about the fact that I have a couple small children I am responsible for a couple times a week. (my grand daughters).....but we will just sit down with my oldest (the mom) and explain my limitations and the duration well in advance of surgery so she can work on makeing other arrangements. They also like to touch base on my line of work and weather I have any kind of insurance or health coverage that will help out financially while I am recovering. They want to make sure that I am as worry free in as many areas of my as possible before surgery so that all my energy can focus on the healing period.

It was all in all a good conversation. Took about a half hour. They are sending me out a few more booklets with reading material in it regarding surgery and other stuff.

She told me to call the booking clerk in there once a month or every month and a half to check on times.

Thats it thats all ........next telephone appt. in on Nov 29th and that one is iwth physio....and the social worker that has the office behind me has offered me her office to accept the call in there since i will be at work for it. ....lol. Not sure how you show someone over the phone how all the physio stuff is done...or how you get into and out of a dodge ram truch.....but hey....why not give it a try eh??...lol

That all sounds very positive Nadine. Great they get these things addressed pre-op.

The physio will probably discuss what aids you might need. Things like grabbers, raised toilet seat, a walker, etc. I think I remember Sylvia saying she got all hers from the Red Cross but was given a list.

I agree with calling often. Pester if you have to.

Oh I can be a pain in the butt if I have too....just ask my man.....lol. I am worried though that if I pester too often they will have me switched to another surgeon who can do it sooner. I don't want that.

It does sound like that was a positive phone conversation. Nice that they do that before surgery and that they seem to really care about your recovery environment.

Its very nice to have all that set up and taken care of pre op so you can just go home and recover with no worries:thmb:

Well thats the idea Haldox....however as far as it getting closer....I'm thinkin not. I asked about amonth ago when I phoned to see about changing the telephone appt times. They said from my appt in August its still looking like 11 months....sighhhh!!!!

Still 11 months.. that is such a long wait.. mine was 5 from the time I saw the OS.
The social worker call is interesting and something I didn't get out here in BC.
And... Jaycee is correct.. I got all my aids from the Red Cross for free... all they ask for is a donation if one is able to do so.
At least the ball is rolling, even though your wait is long.

Hang in there.. it's worth the wait. :thmb:
