This makes no sense to me. My friend had TKR 6 years ago and that knee hurt ever since. (She had the other done a few years ago and is fine.)
She had a dental appointment and was prescribed antibiotics as is done prior to a procedure. Her knee felt somewhat better so she the amoxicillin for 10 days. And now the knee is perfect. No more pain, she can comfortably walk on it and it is not hot. (I know heat is an indicator of infection.
This makes no sense to me. Apparently the amoxicillin helped her. Infection after joint replacement is a major issue. Antibiotic therapy is done for weeks, not days and given IV along with surgical intervention. And I do not believe amoxicillin is even the drug of choice.
Judging by this scenario, it seems she had an infection for 6 years and was “cured” by a 10 day regimen of amoxicillin. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Gil
