Hi again everyone,
Here I am after rest, ice elevation, ice, elevation ice. Nothing I do decreases the swelling and the hard knot at the top of my knee. I am at 5.5 weeks post op and seriously losing my mind! Does anyone have a different suggestion? I'll try anything as RICE has had no effect...
Highlander, I was PKR January 5 as outpatient and was sent to PT facility of my own choosing Day 2. I was given a booklet of exercises grom my OS and told to do them beginning Day 2. The routine was similar to your minus the weights. I am now positive the PT slowed my progress. I was told to do...
Should I wear compression hose or not? Do compression hose help or hinder swelling? I only wear mine the 2 days per week when I have to work and be on my feet. Still on aspirin for bloodclots so worry when I have to stand or sit long.
Hi gianna,
I think I was at my worst around 2.5 weeks after my PKR on 1/5. Try to fight the depression aand be strong. I turned a corner a week later. There is still pain and swelling, but I am making very slow progress. Once you accept that it is a slow recovery (my doctor misled me), you can...
Hi KarriB,
My surgery date was January 5, 2017. I am trying to learn how to use the forum better. I'm not sure I am replying correctly. Again, many thanks.
Thank you Jamie and UAcats70. Your words are encouraging. Hang in there with the flexion, I am sure it will come. I rested much this weekend, but I have to work two of five days this week as I am self-employed. My doctor said at 4 weeks I would be able to go back part-time. I do corporate...
Thanks KarriB
I'll try going back to the cane. I use it outside and did notice I walk better with it. Regarding the swelling it is not the front band. It is above my knee where the knee meets the thigh/quad, in other words where the femur meets the outside cartilage and ligaments. I have tried...
I hope someone can help me as my doctor is 4 hours away. I am 4.5 weeks post-op for inside RPKR. I have a flexion of 5 and a ROM of 116. My sutures have healed nicely and I am able to control pain without narcotics. Walking with a limp but no cane. Sounds good right? Except I have a very...
Hi JLP, i am 4 weeks post op and wished i would have found this forum sooner. I got relatively poor advice from my dr. about what to expect, how much to ice, and exercises. I had a PKR outpatient and was given a booklet of exercises to begin on day 2. Doing those I am sure slowed my recovery. My...
Thank you, pumpkin. I did do the reading before I joined and it helped some. I am however, confused by the medical practitioners who say continue to do the exercises unless I get worse pain, and the forums that say take it easy. What a conundrum this recovery is!
Ronsgirl,
Thanks for your response. I exercise my PT prescribed exercises 2 times daily. They said to do them one two three times and I found three times was too much so I backed off. I ice and elevate the knee above my heart three to five times daily. On the worst days I do it as many as six or...
Fuzzybunny,
You are correct. At 4 weeks post op, I can walk without a cane, get around the house do some light cooking and chores. I have 115 degrees of flextion. I still have a lot of pain and can't walk very far at one time. I stop taking narcotic pain meds a few nights ago and I'm doing okay...
