Three month check up a few days ago. Bone looks good, knee swelling better but still stiff.
Surgeon cleared him to start no-assistance walking. Suggested he start by going from BR to BA carrying a cane, but not putting it down unless needed for balance. And walking in kitchen cane-less...
Today was the 2 month checkup and x-rays.
Surgeon is pleased; the bone growth makes the break barely visible in parts and healing well in other parts (it was a long 6 inch vertical break). The metal brace and all the screws are tight and in good alignment.
His knee is still slightly swelled...
One month post surgery visit with surgeon and x-rays today.
Bone and internal bracing look good and surgeon is pleased with how straight the femur is healing.
Put him on 30% weight-bearing on operated leg. When he had my husband try it in the office, the surgeon held his hand under the...
Update, of sorts.
Not much to say. It's hard to gauge progress for a non-weight bearing initial recovery from ORIF.
With both of our hip replacements we could measure recovery by the ability to walk a bit more as time went on. His doctor's orders are NO weight bearing....and my husband...
The PT is helping, poco a poco.
The therapist is young and the staff and owner are excited to have this challenge. None have dealt with a broken femur with a hip implant. The owner of the company called our surgeon to agree on PT plan while still no weight-bearing.
This morning DH was able...
We've muddled through the holidays solo, though the holidays aren't over until Jan. 6th which is Día de Los Reyes Magos (Day of Wisemen) and still the day most MXN's exchange holiday gifts. At Los Reyes parties, they serve a Rosca de Reyes which is similar to King's Cakes in New Orleans. The...
How did your appt. go?
We got home earlier today, mi esposo via ambulance. Set him up in recliner where he'll sleep, at least for a few nights. He uses walker to steady himself but only hopping one or two steps, still a bit shaky, tired. He's got good upper body strength but being mostly...
His surgeon came by and said nothing weight bearing on operated leg than tippy
toes for equilibrium, for the first month. 2nd month he goes to 50-50 and hoping full ability at end of 3 months maybe 4.
The wound looks good. He explained that other than no weight bearing he wants him to do...
Surgery done. Xrays show long brace down to just above knee. Lots of screws and wires. Surgeon said hospital stay over weekend at least. Walker needed, no weight bearing for a month other than tippy toes. Will evaluate after a month.
He's still in recovery.
My husband fell hard today; x-ray shows compound fracture of the femur where his prosthesis enters it. The radiologist mentions that the prosthesis is intact and not loose at the hip joint.
We live in Mexico and he (and I) had successful easy recovery THR 3 years ago. The same surgeon will...
I was first told I'd need THR in 2014 when I was 61 y/o but my pain level came and went and mostly responded well to NSAIDs. My husband who had been told the same thing in 2006 at age 55, started taking Glucosamine at that time and found it extremely beneficial, after a few months on it, he was...
My husband had his THR with no meds, just the spinal block. At the time he was just a few months into congestive heart failure with a very very low LVEF (heart pumping rate). After consulting with his surgeon, his cardiologist and the anesthesiologist, he opted for nothing as the safest...
Happy 1st Anniversary to me!
I saw my ortho last week and he sent me down the hall for a new x-ray. All is well and he said, See You in Two Years!
Just curious, is this standard practice time-wise on follow-ups in other Countries? I reside in Central Mexico where my surgery was performed.
That's great! Entering and exiting my car took me quite awhile to do painlessly. Driving not a problem, just the in/out of our Honda CRV was problematic. fyi, I go for my 1 year anniversary check up in a few days.
