Same thing for me. Had ltkr on May 8th. I still have considerable stiffness after any increase in exercise amount. My OS said I could expect this for 6 to 12 months depending on my level of activity
Update. I am almost at 14 weeks and I continue on the slow road to recovery. I have cut back on exercise to riding a stationary bike and doing a warm water therapy class. While my knee does not swell drastically I can still feel the stiffness come and go. I am trying to stretch some every day. I...
My goodness what an ordeal. My prayers go out to you and your knee. My OS said he didn't recommend going to a rehab facility because of the greater risks of infection. I wasn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks. Even after I was off of pain meds pretty quickly they said my leg strength wasn't back...
update 3. Saw the surgeon on Monday. He said everything was healing well. When I asked about swelling he said not to worry. Said to stretch everyday and do light leg lifts but if something hurt to not do it. Will try a stretching warm water class so see if that helps. I can tell patience will...
I sympathise so much. My TKR was May 5 and my knee has done exactly the same thing. I was going great and about 2 weeks ago I started going in reverse. I'm trying to just stretch every day and ride the stationary bike for now. My doc said I was doing great and just don't get in a big hurry. Very...
I assumed I needed to keep stengthing the quads and this would help with stability in the knee. Both the doc and pt said getting the quads back in strength was very important. What a balancing act I have found myself in.
Update #2. On Friday did stationary bike and warm water stretching. That worked out great. Saturday was a day of ice and elevation so even better. However, don't try the peddle/paddle boat. First it is awful to get in and out of but mainly the biking motion requires too much leg strength for...
Hi, pjanec. While not diabetic my main problem has been swelling too. My tkr was 5/8, left knee. I am currently icing and elevating multiple times a day. I've been assured it will just take time. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the info. I can certainly do what you have recommended. How long do you suggest I wait before trying to resume some of the exercises?
It is interesting because the level of exercising is basically what PT had me doing early on (4 to 6 weeks post op) and now my knee is protesting...
update: after a day and a half of doing practically nothing with frequent ice and elevation the swelling went down a little. I was able to do the stationary bike with minimal discomfort, no real pain today. Hooray! Did the joint class and had knee in a hot whirlpool and it was feeling pretty...
1. Pain level is a 1 or 2 altho that goes up with the swelling as the day progressed to a 3 or 4. No burning or stabbing but some aching and a feeling of heaviness in the knee
2. No prescription pain meds now. Taking extra-strength Tylenol 650mg 2 times a day. I am unable to use nsaids because...
I had surgery on May 8th. I thought I was doing great but this last week my swelling and ROM took a big back step. Is this normal? Everyone says just give your knee time to heal but this is not only aggravating but depressing.
