OT has contacted me about what to expect post operatively. I asked about pain control, she said I could have:
“Paracetamol :yikes:,
Anti inflammatory medication ( can’t have those due to blood pressure) … or …
morphine type medication. I just have to ask….. “
I’m hoping that in the event I am...
@Jockette thank you for your reply.
@Roy Gardiner thank you also for your personal take on TKR and for the library link. Grateful for the support here.
Pre assessment yesterday. Nurse said I can consider spinal anaesthesia alongside general. She said if I decided on this it’d mean a less deeper general anaesthetic thus getting over the anaesthesia quicker and better pain relief.
She gave me a leaflet to read and I’m to let anaesthetist know...
Right TKR surgery date is scheduled for 27th August 2021.
Sharp pain in middle of right knee when walking and feeling of the knee ‘sticking’…so looking forward to getting on with the surgery now because of these new changes.
I was virtually assessed by a physio today for the first time for advice re: treating quad atrophy pre-op. He suggested that if I wished to I could research and purchase a TENS machine as he has no access to this type of equipment. He couldn’t suggest a make/ model etc….Although if I buy one he...
@Celle
Celle, thank you so much for sharing. I was so pleased to hear of you regaining your active life! I am so pleased for you and it is an encouragement to me seeing how a difficult recovery can still become a successful overall outcome. It’s evident that an experienced skilful surgeon in...
@smokey1 thank you for your thoughts. I have a painful right big toe joint. It looks larger, and feels harder, than my left big toe joint. It was occasionally giving me pain and felt stiff when I walked for approx the last 2 years. I took no real notice of it as it was occasional. For about the...
@ihavetwins thank you for your reply. I’ve read many internet articles where severe pain seemed to be at the top of the list indicating need of a tkr. This has informed my thinking and held me back too, made me question the need for sooner surgery, instead of me looking at the whole picture I’m...
@Celle thank you for your reply, good focused points…I’m wanting a good outcome so I don’t want to over delay this inevitable surgery. I need to book surgery again and trusting in God go through with it.
@djklaugh My results of the questionnaire:

Hi Rain Dancer, (I hope I’m posting this reply correctly ) thank you for your reply. To answer your questions:
I can usually go up and down stairs in series.
If the stair treads are narrow, or the stairs are steep or there’s a lot of steps I need to adapt by reverting to going down the stairs...
I forgot to add that the surgeon I saw for a second opinion in April 2021 said he felt I would be in the 20% group of patients who weren’t happy with the tkr outcome due to my level of mobility and not having much pain.
I’ve been reading various posts over the last few months regarding best time for TKR. I had a lateral right menisectomy by keyhole in 1986 and for 30 years had no problems. Then in 2016 I had horrible lateral knee pain following working out and it’s all changed since then. I used to be able to...
