Had to have PCA (patient controlled anesthesia) for severe pain and spasms yesterday evening. The pain was torturous for 4 3/4 hours as they tried everything else first to control pain and spasms. Then they got pain control dept on board. Thank God it only took till 6pm to get spasms and pain...
Kathleen here. Successful surgery on right knee yesterday at 4.30 pm. Thank God. Broken tibia repaired also tendon on right knee. Surgeon says left knee tendon can be repaired sometime in the future. I am in pain but hospital care wonderful. Lovely male nurse just brought me tea and toast and...
Kathleen here, from a fall I took 3 days after surgery my knees buckled and when I fell my bum hit my ankles, so a sharp sudden bend of both legs and the doc only ordered x rays no test to check for tendon or ligament damage. K
He everyone, I have had a terrible setback. BTKR April 1. I took a fall 3 days after surgery, knees buckled and my bum hit my heels. Went by ambulance to hospital took x-rays and told everything was fine. I have not been able to lift leg straight when on my back, also straightening knee when...
Kildare here, 6 months out from BTKR still very stiff and unstable. Still cannot lift my legs straight when lying on my back I am having MRI to determine no nerve damage. What is a CRP test.
Kildare here; my PT found the following article on line it is very scientific but explains a lot when there has been trauma to the knee:
TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY: MUSCLE IMPAIRMENTS, FUNCTIONAL LIMITATIONS AND RECOMMENDED REHABILITATION APPROACHES
A study done by many doctors. Hope this is useful...
Kildare here, I am doing much better. I was overdoing the exercises early on and that aggravated the swelling and stiffness. I am nearly 5 months post surgery for BTKR and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I look back 8 years and recall I had dreaded walking any distance because of...
Kildare here, new issues with me. As mentioned before I cannot lift either leg straight when I lay flat on my back. The knees stay bent. Had an EMG test yesterday and specialist suspects nerve damage caused by tourniquets applied on thighs during surgery to control bleeding. I am 83 so Doctor...
Thank you for your replies. I am also using Dr. Ho’s electrical pulse machine around knee area as it claims to relieve swelling, I have also reseigned myself to the fact that it is a long haul recovery after BTKR surgery. Looking back I have had knee pain and mobility issues for 8 years so if it...
Thank you for responding. I am learning so much from bonesmart I will take your advice and cut way back on the exercises and hope the swelling improves. It is very uncomfortable, especially at night. Kildare
Interesting to read that someone has the same issue as me, the quads are not working. Also I think I have been overdoing the exercises as the swelling in my knees never goes down. I think I do too many exercises and too many repetitions when I exercise. I have access to a swimming pool every day...
Thank you for responses, it is encouraging more to know I am not the only one having these issues. Hopefully it is not a problem with the femural nerve. My PT will be interested to hear what the surgeon (my friend, not the one who operated on my knees) thinks it might be. Kildare
I saw the surgeon (also a friend) who replaced my hip 8 years ago. I mentioned that I can straighten my legs when standing but cannot straighten them when lying on my back. She asked if the anesthesiologist blocked the femural nerve during my BTKR on April 1st. Or the nerves could have been...
