I was crossing a street when I was 21 and was hit by a car travelling at 28mph. Impact was on my left side and I required surgery for what they referred to as the terrible triad.

By age 30 I had already had 4 surgeries, the last one being a reconstruction. I was told then by a highly regarded Ortho specialist in sports medicine that I needed a knee replacement but that they wouldn't do this type of surgery for me until I was around 65.

That was 28 years ago and I can say life has really had its challenging moments. I was a single parent raising 2 children and disabled due to issues with my back.

I am now waiting for a surgery date in June for a knee replacement and absolutely terrified. Memories of the past surgeries are still with me and I am not sure if I want to experience that kind of pain again. Having gone this long adapting to all my health issues I am not sure if I want to put myself through this.
