Hi.
Mt. Whitney is on my list too. My goal is to go up and down in a day.
I had a TAR on my right ankle on November 8, 2022 using Inbone II which my doctor recommended for my activity level. My ankle had been holding me back for 4 years before my TAR while I endured impingement surgery and a...
OrthoCarolina is very good with TAR. I recommend them. My surgeon has his TAR count well over 1,000. I recently saw that a prominent surgeon just moved back to OrthoCarolina from Wisconsin.
I had a 4 hour drive to get there and back. Riding in the car on the way back the day after surgery was...
I would check OrthoCarolina. They have several docs that have performed many TARs. My surgeon, Hodges Davis was in the thousands. Duke Orthopedic in Durham NC and HSS in NYC are both centers of excellence for TAR. There are many who travel across the country to see their specialists.
@dingo dad I am just catching up on bonesmart. You have had a rough time. I can understand some nerve damage with all of that work. I hope you feel much better now.
@ken2108 and @Iski , I have found that zero drop shoes still work best for me. I wear Altra Lone Peak trail runners. This Summer...
Hello @mbbs I was similarly active until my bone on bone ankle arthritis precipitated by sports injuries stopped me. I found a surgeon here in the US who had done more than a thousand TARs. Finding an experienced surgeon is critical. I know that there are good ones in the UK based on reading...
Hi @orhopest. Sorry for the late response. I was in a shoe at 8 weeks. I am at 9 months now and everything is mostly good though I get some pains. I think I have a little tendonitis so I am giving it a rest. I ended up going to PT for about 6 weeks for the ankle. I hike and ride the bike...
Hi @BMM. I had my TAR in November 2022. Wright inbone II. As part of the procedure I had a gastrocnemius recession which effectively lengthens the muscles and tendons at the back of the leg. This seems to be an alternative to achilles tendon lengthening. You may want to ask about this. From my...
Thank you @NaturLovr. Best to you also. It seems that a lot of people are encouraged to wait on surgery but it does have its downsides. It took 4 years from initial symptoms, surgery for removing a bone spur, and another a year later to debride the tibiotalar joint. Neither one of these really...
@NaturLovr I'm sorry about your ankle issues. Your symptoms are similar to mine but your case seems a bit more complicated. I would advise a lot of research to find centers of excellence for TAR. Lots of people travel to find expertise on TAR and complex ankle issues as TAR is not nearly as...
Thanks FCBayern. I am now at 10 weeks post op from my TAR. PT is starting to ramp up and I am walking with the dogs daily 2-5 miles some flat, some hills. I am also doing some spinning and rowing on the Concept 2. Most of my pains are related to using muscles that have been neglected for, in...
Hi @El Oso. I am a bit older than you at 66 but like you I am/was very active mostly intense hiking and cycling. My right ankle started bothering me four years ago when I began having pain in my right ankle which I thought was an Achilles tendon issue. It was not. X-rays revealed bone spurs...
Hi. Recovery update: as of today, January 4, I am 8 weeks post op with my Inbone II implant. I am having no pain or nerve issues. Incisions are all healed up and look good though my ankle still turns purple in the shower. I started PT at 6 weeks. I am able to walk 2 miles with the dogs on flat...
I totally get your frustration but now it's where to from here. If you haven't already, I would consider consulting with other surgeons before proceeding.
If my pain is gone and I can look forward to getting active again, I'm good. I would keep an eye on that heel and look into more analysis if it becomes more bothersome.
Recovery update: At the one month mark, my cast is off, sutures and staples out, and I'm in a tall air cast. X-rays look good. I am permitted to walk with the only limitation being pain. I am able to go up and down stairs and walk around the house. I use my knee scooter for longer distances like...
