    TKR Rapunzel's Pre-Op Thread

This was my first major surgery and I was terrified. It took me almost two years to decide to have it done because I was so frightened that it would not work and I’d be confined to a wheelchair or worse, lose my leg. I’m a pessimist in case you couldn’t tell. Now, it’s been two months and I’m so...

TKR Left full knee replacement July 1st!

@Piratequeen Welcome to the forum. I came home with several useful tools including the ice machine, strap which I used to lift my leg for the first couple of weeks (it was like a dead log!), and a grabber which was the best thing when I dropped something or my dog accidentally pushed a sock...

Thanks for the information on the rollers. I’m continuing to have horrible muscle spasms and might try and order one and see if it might help. Of course, the TheraGun sounds great, too. Nothing like a soothing massage.

    TKR LTKR on June 23

Glad to hear your surgery went well. I remember that first day after the nerve block wore off. I was glad I live alone and in the country because I could yell as loud and as often as I wanted. It did drive my poor dog into the spare bedroom but she eventually got used to it and would sit beside...

    TKR New knee woes

The past few days have been awful. The muscle spasms have gotten worse, occurring not just at night but during the day when I am trying to rest and relieve some of the pain and swelling. When I’m sitting, they are worst in the back of my thigh, just below my butt. I tried using a towel to raise...

I had awful nausea for the first week or so and I was taking anything for pain. I found applesauce to help settle my tummy down.

I tried using my pedal exerciser about an hour before bedtime and I didn’t have any muscle spasms. Maybe not letting the legs “relax” right before bedtime tires them enough that they rest.

    TKR Gunu_21's Recovery Thread

I found lifting the leg to be one of the most frustrating things in the first few weeks. Then, all of a sudden, I was able to lift it. My suggestion is to just keep trying and I think you’ll find the same will happen.

@BBCG I have been using their lotion for quite a few years after a tarsal tunnel release. It definitely helped loosen the tightness and relieve the cramps in my ankle and foot. I’m going to use it on my knee and calf and see if it provides any relief.

@Dubeski Glad I’m not the only having this issue. I have a pedal exerciser that I use as part of my morning exercise routine. I think I’ll try adding some time using it in the evening and see if that helps. It sure won’t hurt! Thanks for the idea.

TKR June 16 LTKR on my way

@KPup I am also a widow and live alone and have been by myself since my surgery. It’s interesting how our brains can figure out a solution. My Dad always said that if you can’t figure out how to do something, sleep on it. It works for me every time. You’ll be fine.

@ihavetwins what do you mean by “roller”?

    TKR New knee woes

My surgery was on April 22. Thank you for the information. It is just about the track my surgeon has me on. My physical therapy was in home and focused on mobility and balance. I transitioned from walker to cane within the first two weeks. Then was free of mobility aids by week five. Ice and...

    TKR New knee woes

I had my right knee replacement in April and thought everything was going good until last week when the whole leg started having muscle spasms when I try to sleep. I have tried doing some stretches before getting into bed. I also used some topical pain reliever, making sure to massage it in...
