Pre op appointment and recovery timeline

We’re home he’s actually doing ok, some pain, but we’re keeping ahead of it with icing and pain meds. 3.5 hour drive home sucked, he’s tuckered out, but not too bad. Home health physical therapist comes tomorrow, hoping they’re as good as the one in the hospital, who was awesome. Very gentle and...

That’s exactly it, the bottles take much longer to thaw and can be re used. Mine fits 5 at a time in the bucket. I add water, and the machine circulates the cold water through a pad, keeping a constant cold but not frozen temperature. Because it’s not as cold as ice, you can keep it going all...

Pre op appointment and recovery timeline

The deed is done. Everything went fine, he’s in recovery. The only thing that went “wrong” was that they attempted a spinal but couldn’t get it in due to his size, so he ended up with a general. But otherwise just fine, hopefully he gets up to his room soon. Thanks for all the encouragement

He’s otherwise healthy, but He’s classified as morbidly obese (5’8, 340 lbs) and the doctor wants to avoid putting that kind of pressure on the implant until the bone has a chance to heal. He said his bone looks good, but he wants to be very conservative with his recovery due to his size.

Pre op appointment and recovery timeline

Pre op was Tuesday, passed with flying colors. The only hitch was that they now want to do a cardiac stress test. I told them he had a stent like 5 times, and even specifically asked if he needed cardiac clearance, and they were still shocked by the information. So now we’re back today (3 hours...

We have an ice machine. My daughter needed it for her 3 knee reconstructions (all before the age of 14) and it worked amazingly. Her first surgeon for her failed right knee didn’t even mention icing. By the second one, the new surgeon recommended the machine, and the difference was night and...

Pre op appointment and recovery timeline

That’s kind of what we were thinking, the move is maybe possible, but only if everything goes perfectly, which hopefully it does, but you never know. He doesn’t need to start the new job until January first, we just wanted to move before the snow flies. He should be able to collect disability...

Hubby is getting his right hip done August 21st! Super nervous for him, but looking forward to getting our lives back

Pre op appointment and recovery timeline

We have a date for my husbands right THR. It is August 21st, less than 3 weeks from now. Pre op appointment is the 14th. Is there anything particular I should be asking the doctor? I’m so nervous that they will cancel his surgery, or that he’ll chicken out. He’s very nervous about surgery...

    Looking for a surgeon

I can’t speak for Ohio, as I’m in southern ca, but After 5 failed consults, I had to call 27 doctors before finding three that were willing to do it. They definitely don’t advertise it, so you have to be a little patient and leave lots of messages with surgical schedulers. It’s super...

Need hip OS in Southern CA - overweight

Appointment was yesterday. The doctor was amazing! Very kind, treated us very well, explained everything. I really felt like he respected my husband as a human being and not just a “fat guy”. He totally recognized that he shouldn’t have to live with chronic pain just because of his weight. We...

Need hip OS in Southern CA - overweight

After 30+ calls, I found two doctors willing to consider taking him on. One actually had a cancellation and is able to see him Monday. We’re continuing to work on his diet and get him completely off tobacco. Would a nicotine patch or gum be a problem for healing, or is it tobacco itself that is...

Need hip OS in Southern CA - overweight

We have a couple of doctors through cedars Sinai who are willing to see him (knowing his height and weight) I’m hoping they’ll be willing to do it ASAP, because he has an amazing job opportunity starting after the first of the year, so it would be awesome if he was pain free by November-ish so...

Need hip OS in Southern CA - overweight

Help! I’m new here, hoping someone can help me. My husband has been in pain for around 5 years, 3 years ago he was told he needed a right hip replacement for arthritis. The doctor refused to operate unless he lost weight. He was able to lose some, but not enough. 3 years later, it’s bone on...
