THR Pain 9 years after THR

Oh yes, so many of us (myself included) have had those thoughts, to whit: "Wish I never had surgery, only made things worse...I know I'll be one of those who never gets better...etc." But, thing is, it does get better and it will get better, and yes, there will probably be setbacks, but they...

The more ornery, the better. We've earned it, right?

Getting back to work--such a major milestone! Well done.

THR Six weeks since surgery and still can't do a straight leg lift.

I don't know much about biking. Suggest you contact Josephine who has quite a bit of experience. Maybe your PT can help with exercises specific to getting the leg up there.

@webbie73 , it sounds like that is your PT's mindset as well. Best of luck.

THR Six weeks since surgery and still can't do a straight leg lift.

@webbie73 , you bring up an interesting point regarding levels of fatigue in PT. Here's my 2 cents worth. I have spent considerable time lifting free weights in the gym, and I worked for years as a rehab counselor, but those are my only qualifications. I'm not a medical professional, so...

    THR Erushka Post-Op #2

Had my 6 week OS visit yesterday. Had to wait 2 hours for a 10 minute visit, but that was not the doctor's fault. I've been discharged from his care. He recommended a one year follow up, and then every 5 years after that. I still have a few issues, and I'll mention those and his response...

THR Six weeks since surgery and still can't do a straight leg lift.

Any spouse who brings you a cup of coffee in bed is definitely a keeper! I'll post my 6 week update under my own thread. Good luck with the PT. You don't have to do everything he says. My PT, Sheri, told me to always stop if one of her exercises was painful. Exertion and pain are not the same...

THR Six weeks since surgery and still can't do a straight leg lift.

I usually check email first thing in the morning, and today I saw your post, EditER. Brought a smile to my face, and I toasted you with a cup of morning joe. Truly the drink of the gods, especially the first cup! Sounds like you have a wise and prudent OS. I always appreciate a doctor who...

THR Six weeks since surgery and still can't do a straight leg lift.

Hey EditER, I'm alot like you. I'm 6 weeks out from my right THR. Had left THR in 20012. I, too, am very goal driven regarding the PT exercises. I had major problems with my hip flexors in 2012. I found myself 4 weeks out from surgery and unable to lift my foot 1/2" off the floor. I thought...

    THR FAI + 2 scopes = THR

Hey Aprilc, glad to see the surgery worked out well. Don't make my mistake with PT--no pain no gain might apply to Crossfit, but it has no place in the PT gym. Best of luck!

THR Am I dreaming? Not anymore!

Oh yes, I had general anesthesia for my left hip in 2012. 3 weeks of nausea, just felt miserable. Got a spinal this time and it was so much better. Felt like a long deep nap. Spinal rocks! I've had a much easier time with the right hip, and I'm sure that the anesthesia was a major factor.

Hi Midchild, I had my right hip replaced on April 6, so I guess we're both April babies! Glad to see that you're making progress--we all move ahead at our own rate. I'm doing a lot of PT--in the clinic twice per week and daily at home exercises--but in my opinion the best exercises are walking...

    THR Erushka Post-Op #2

My one month surgery anniversary was on 5/6, so thought I'd post an update. Overall things continue to go well. Walking about the house without a cane, only using the cane for stairs and walking on uneven surfaces. Walking outside 40-50 minutes per day in the AM, and performing PT exercises...

    Why so few males here?

Recovery is an emotional roller coaster for men too, but many of us cannot or do not want to acknowledge that. I think that expressing and being in touch with emotions is a real strength. But people who do these things might appear weaker--you know, accused of whining, complaining, etc--when...
