Have had a TKR on my left knee after 5 previous ops. Original injury sustained when I was 17 playing football! I had a cruciate ligament repair at 19 and it never really worked. Carried on running, playing squash, cycling and finally gave in and had the TKR at 50. Now suffering with ongoing post operative stiffness (probably due to the previous ops and scar tissue) and struggling to get any positive responses from my surgeon (don't ask, UK NHS isn't all it used to be!). The physio has told me I need to work harder and feel '7 out of 10' on my pain threshold to get an improved bend (about 90 - 95 degrees - I'm 12 weeks post op) which is crazy. The last thing she said was 'your knee isn't functional' and you might need manipulation to ' break down' the scar tissue. Great.
