TKR Finally getting my new Knee!! LTKR 9/16/22

After 20+ years of being told I am too young for a knee replacement, I finally met a doctor who agreed there was no use in waiting until I am older when he could fix me now. Quick history - wrecked my knee at age 14 in high school gym class. Took a full year to get my mother to take me...

2022 September Sapphires - Are you having knee surgery in September?

I am finally having a Mako-assisted LTKR scheduled for Sept 16, 2022. After 20+ years of misery and being told I was too young I found an OS who said "what good is waiting until you are too old to enjoy life; especially when there is something I can do know to help you". I swear I wanted to...

    New Doc - New Hope?

I know I am overweight - I have put on 35lbs in 2 years because of my knee. I am not terribly large (204lbs, I am 5'3") - but OS says I have to get my BMI down to 25% atleast.

    New Doc - New Hope?

So very disappointed right now. New OS wants to get an MRI to check out the soft tissues, but it didn't sound like he was willing to help me. According to the new xrays today I still have marginal (less than 2mm) joint space, I am too young and too fat to be a candidate for TKR. He said if I...

    New Doc - New Hope?

I have been putting together my packet for my trip to the OS Thursday and found my CD of knee xrays from May 2013. Thought I would upload them here and see what the "experts" have to say :bicycle1: . These are NON-WEIGHT bearing films. Can't wait to see what the weight bearing ones look...

    New Doc - New Hope?

I have probably spent almost an entire year (12 months) doing PT if you added up the multiple sessions over the last 3 years (6 wks here, 12 wks there) - all resulted in the physical therapist saying this is as good as it will get. Due to the last 3 years of becoming more and more sedentary due...

    New Doc - New Hope?

Tweet25 - until recently it has always been my left knee, but a couple of weeks ago my right knee gave up on me and has had enough. I think/hope my right knee is just torn meniscus, but I am afraid there may be more to it because it has been handling all of my body weight for several years now...

    New Doc - New Hope?

Seeking opinions - is it better to go into an appointment armed with facts and demonstrate that you have done your homework or to go in appearing to be "dumb" and innocent so as not to offend the doctor?

    New Doc - New Hope?

YIPPEEE!!! :happydance: I finally got an appointment to see my new OS - next week Thursday (9/12) - and none too soon. Now that my "good" knee has gone caputs I have discovered a whole new level of miserable. Missed work yesterday due to pain in both knees so bad I couldnt move or concentrate. I...

    Double Trouble

Still waiting on the new OS appt - he is apparently out of town until Sept 4th and has to "approve" my case before I can schedule an appt. With this new development, maybe they will make an exception and have the PA see me. I have a few pain pills left, but not many. I am taking Motrin 800mg...

    Double Trouble

One of my worst fears associated with all the knee mess I have been dealing with has come true - my "good knee" has given up on me.. After dinner last night my right knee was rather sore - more so than usual. Both knees throbbed all night - I am used to the left one. Woke up this morning unable...

    New Doc - New Hope?

I am SO excited. Just got the call from my new OS office that as soon as I get the insurance referral number I can get an appointment - so no waiting weeks to be seen!!!! :dancy: I am going to make my list of issues I have with my knee and I will not leave his office until they have been...

    New Doc - New Hope?

I know the new OS is known for performing TKRs on the "non-traditional" patients that a lot of other OS won't touch for one reason or another (age, weight, etc). I know he ONLY does knees so that is already a plus. I do plan to ask a LOT of questions as soon as I can get his office on the phone...
