    Hi everyone.. I'm scared..

Hi @Pony, I was in a somewhat similar situation at least as far as the fracture. I had a femoral neck fracture in Oct 2014, crashed my bike on slick pavement. That was absolutely the most pain I've ever experienced in my life. I had to call my wife to come get me. I thought I would go home and...

Surgeons offering a variety of devices: Seattle area

Hi @Buck13. I was in a similar situation late last year. I was reading up on all of the different options and materials as well. I got advice from others that it was best to trust the surgeon's decisions, since they have the best knowledge to make the right choice for each case. However, I...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

I had my first 2 PT sessions this week. I'm going to the place I went to a year ago when I was recovering the fracture so my PT had all my measurements from last time. I already have better range of motion than I did at the time of my last session when I had the screws in, so I'm pretty...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Ha, yes, I suppose that is a bit confusing. In October 2014 I fractured my hip originally, and at that point the original OS put in 4 screws. (Interesting as I look at the original after the fracture, the femoral neck doesn't look near as bad) Since I was recovering but still having pain...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Prior to my Dr. Appointment I had an X-ray done on Wednesday that included both hips in standing position. I remembered that I had a similar one done last October when I had my first appointment with the OS that did the THR. I thought it might be interesting to compare them, so I asked for...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

2 weeks (and a bit) post-op. I had my 2-week follow up appointment yesterday. Things are looking great so far. According to my OS, I've got no weight-bearing or range of movement restrictions. I have been moving about the house without any aids for a day or so, and I use a trekking-pole for...

Femoral Neck Fracture -> ORIF -> THR = Panic

Were you posterior procedure? I was anterior and I asked about any limitations, and my OS said I had no limitations on leaning forward. My main restriction is kicking the leg out backwards, which has me a little confounded as to how to best mount my bike. I currently swing my right (bad) leg out...

Femoral Neck Fracture -> ORIF -> THR = Panic

I'm a week and a half post-op, and feeling pretty good. Still quite a bit of incision and muscle pain, but I don't have the sharp deep pain any more. I'm still a little wary of knee pain, but the entire leg is quite sore still. I had to promise my OS I wouldn't attempt to get on the bike, even...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Thanks @Jaycey As a work-at-home person, I'm already fairly disciplined about this, since I'm used to getting up frequently and standing, especially during phone calls. Yeah, this is the one I'm worried the most about. Hopefully I'll be able to work some naps in here and there during the day.

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Thanks. Its not outright hurting now, but I can feel it there, lurking. I know I overdid it last year when trying to rehab the broken hip, so I'm going to try to take it easier this time around. I've been giving the hip priority in icing, but giving the knee some ice sounds like a good idea.

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Heh, when you put it that way, it does sound kind of crazy. However, I'm a software developer, and on top of that, I'm a remote employee working from home. So for me getting to work is a matter of putting on my bathrobe and shuffling 50 feet or so to my home office. A traffic delay for me is...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

One week post-op. Hard to believe its already been a week. I'm still sleeping quite a bit; it was nice to be able to do this over the holiday break. I'm still doing full-dose on the oxycodone. I have been considering starting to taper off but I do notice the pain when I've been late a couple...

Has Anyone Had THR as Outpatient Surgery?

@TerryCloth so far I am doing OK. Everyone said to be prepared to be sore and they were right. Muscles and incision are definitely sore. But walking and putting weight on the leg have gone better than I anticipated. But as long as I don't lapse on taking the pain meds I am pretty comfortable and...

THR AzDrew on the Other Side

Whew, I can't believe how much I've been sleeping. With my fracture a year ago, I had percocet, this time oxycodone + tylenol. I thought that they were basically the same, but I don't remember sleeping so much last time. Anyway, so far things are going well. I've been trying to take things...
