Right now I analyze patterns in human behavior in online environments. Statistics and experiments.
Previously I analyzed patterns in human behavior in the area of ergonomics, although I concentrated on backs, hands, and arms, not knees! I learned a fair amount about the musculoskeletal and nervous system in that context and taught ergonomics of office work at a university for several years. The carpal tunnel syndrome scare of the 1980's-90's is when I did most of that work. I also did some research on what "comfort" really is and consulted with office furniture and computer hardware companies (Apple, IBM). Interesting stuff. If you work in an office you might be sitting in a chair I worked on, you might be using a mouse whose design I influenced, and if you work in a hospital I might have helped with the design of your materials management system, in a small way.
None of that prepared me for the TKR journey though I do think I'm able to understand what docs and PTs have to say to me more than some people might. But I'm humbled by this whole thing and I've been very, very lucky. So far.
