    TKR PT Failure

@mendogal you know it! thanks for understanding. My sidewalks are flat and level so that’s all good. I think my muscle memory takes over and I think I’m walking beside a dog or exercising.

    TKR PT Failure

Thanks @Jockette and @mendogal yesterday I realized I can walk around the house and grocery shop without a problem, it’s just the 10 minute walk outside that hurts. I think it’s the pace I’m going and maybe if I slowed that down I could walk around outside. I know three months is early days...

Do gentle stretching exercises help not only with ROM but also strengthening my knee so I can walk longer distances without pain the next day?

    TKR Terrified

I had the same problem with vomiting, despite anti nausea drugs, and was very slow to figure out that the opioids were causing the vomiting. I think they made me much more befuddled than I realized at the time. I remember telling a friend that I thought the ice machine was just as helpful as...

    TKR PT Failure

@ladyj that’s exactly what I lost and I’m amazed it’s staying off without exercise or much activity. It’s enough to get off my beta blocker too!

    TKR PT Failure

Thanks @Roy Gardiner, I appreciate your answer even though it’s not what I wanted to hear. I’m looking forward to reading the links you sent. Now that I’ve read the links, I realize that I did need to know what gentle stretches are.

    TKR PT Failure

I am soooo much better than I was a month ago when I first wrote. When I get out of the bed, I can walk fairly normally instead of lurching to the bathroom and keeping a close eye on the nearest wall. I can get out of chairs without arms and off of low toilets. What a relief! That will...

    THR Noxus recovery thread

@Noxus if you’re still in need of a walker, I found that buying a tray to fit between the walker handles allowed me to put all kinds of stuff on it and wheel around easily. It’s also a good way to avoid carry anything heavy.

TKR 4 week from TKR - feeling behind

@Lilkat you are my surgical date twin, and you and @blovell2424 basically took the words right out of my mouth. I regularly overdo, I am usually in some sort of pain and I try not to feel I should be doing more or should be further along. I definitely no longer try to bend my knee back as far as...

    TKR PT Failure

@EalingGran thanks for your comments. Your scenario scares me a little bit with rushing people and the tube. Believe me, I have a constant reminder not to lean on my cane. In fact, I couldn’t wait to stop using the cane because it aggravated the daylights out of the arm that has the torn...

    TKR PT Failure

Something interesting happened yesterday on an outing. My PT doctor told me to take my cane when I’m around people so they are less likely to bump into me. I took my cane yesterday because we were walking more than usual for me and boy did it change my life. People kind of basically ignored us...

@Abbylayla thank you, that really sums up everything I need to know right now. Icing is my ace in the hole, That’s what I need to hear. I’m becoming a little ice averse. I am icing three body parts each time And it gets a little chilly

    TKR PT Failure

Thank you Needa, so much good stuff to unpack… It had not occurred to me to try something else in the pool other than walking but I agree it makes sense. My shoulder PA said I could do the side stroke or a breaststroke ...as if on the breaststroke. I feel like I will try to mix it up in the...

TKR The right knee this time

Dogs are much better people than we are. I want mine back, she died a few years ago of old age, but I have to say it’s been a relief not to need to take care of her during the last couple of months. All my dogs were used to walking daily and refused to give that up for long, recovery or not. I...

    TKR PT Failure

@EalingGran Oh thank you, that’s exactly what I needed. I thought about Pilates after you mentioned it but my experience finding gentle practitioners in anything has been limited. I think the swelling has lessened enough that it’s time for some exercise. Thank you again.

@EalingGran @mendogal this is all new to me and very interesting. Thanks. I do dream of getting in and out of my kayak again. That’s when I will have arrived.

    TKR PT Failure

@mendogal , hmmm, good thinking. It makes sense. I kept telling my PTs about the swelling behind the knee but it was like I was talking in Greek.

    TKR PT Failure

@EalingGran that’s really remarkable, I didn’t know knees went back that far. I bought myself one of those flexion measuring devices but only used it once since physical therapy ended. It hurt to bend my knee back as far as I could so the heck with it. You folks have unleashed a new me, wild and...
