    TKR kneeper's done!

Hi Kneeper, I haven't been on here for a long time, but your post came up on my email, so I thought I'd toss in my views. I am 10 months out of TKR, and still have to be some issues. My knee swells after a busy day, and after lots of stairs, and the stiffness is always there, especially after...

    Well, it's done!

2 week trip with new knee Hi All, I cannot find my old thread since I have not been on for several wekks, so here goes. We just returned from a 2week trip to Scotland & Ireland. My TKR was nearly 4 weeks old when we began. The trip started with a flight delay, missing a connection, and finally...

Will new knees be good enough?

Have a wonderful trip, Gene! You are an inspiration!

    Well, it's done!

Thanks, Jamie. I will call and see if they will do that. It would be a huge help. My new PT is making me promise to walk the aisle every hour or so.

    I am home

Your island is definitely less accessible than mine. We are a 40 min ferry ride out, and I go to PT 2 x a week now. All those ramp trips! Wow! I cannot imagine doing that when I was not recovering from a TKR. Good luck, and take it slowly

    I am home

Hi Jenny! I can relate to your ramp issues! I live on an island and have to come and go to the mainland by way of a mailboat, so the tides are an issue. Going up the ramp was not difficult...a bit slow is all. But going down is harder and if the ramp is wet, I need someone next to me. I am 2...

    Well, it's done!

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I am now on my Maine island until Scotland in a month. I drove the 4 hours myself this time, and did well. Had an ice pack on my knee for the 1st 2 hours, until it got warm! No bad effects from the trip, since I elevated, iced and had a cold rum drink when I...

Will new knees be good enough?

Gene, you are amazing! Good luck with that race! I am still riding a recumbent bike at PT and they won't give me permission to ride a real bike yet.....which is probably good since I am such a klutz and might fall! lol

    I have crossed over!

Heathersmom65, you amaze me! I am one week ahead of you in my recovery, and a few years younger, yet you are way ahead of me. I can't believe you went back to teaching after one month! Good for you! I had a sub call at about 7 weeks out and laughed at her! There was no way my knee could tolerate...

    Well, it's done!

Well, I took my knee to a wedding Saturday, in Boston, which is an hour away. Then we had to park 2 blocks away, so I walked in dress shoes along the uneven sidewalks, and down Bunker Hill. So far, so good. In the church an hour, then back up the hill to the car. We danced twice at the...

    TKR kneeper's done!

Kneeper, it sounds like you are doing fine. Listen to the fine people here. I did nothing on PT days but go home and rest, for the 1sy 4 weeks. Save the exercises for the off-PT days. I just went back to PT after 10 days off (went away)....2 days in a row. I walked my usual 2.5 miles after day...

    Catheter

Chuck, my 2 biggest fears were the catheter and the spinal. I don't remember having the spinal, just vaguely being asked to sit up. I must have been in lala land. Catheter was put in when I was asleep and coming out was no biggie. My hubby has had one toom and said it was nothing to remove. Once...

    Well, it's done!

Thanks for the encouragement, Sunflower! It is so easy to overdo, then realize it later. My husband no longer helps with any household chores unless I ask, so cooking, cleaning and laundry are all mine! I am learning that it can wait. If he doesn't see the mess, then I won't either.....or I will...

What did you 'not think of'???

I am STILL learning! Learning to be patient and come here when I have a question....Learning that my knee will heal at its own pace....Learning to tell PT when it hurts too much.....I learned to not be afraid to take my pain meds and to take them BEFORE the pain was bad. Even now, I am off the...

    Well, it's done!

Josephine, that chart is helpful. Will show it to hubby, so he sees what is going on. My walking is coming along fine and I am able to do more around the house. I know I need to be patient! Reading about some others' recoveries makes me realize I can't rush mine. Where I am now is a great...
