Patellectomy No Kneecaps and a TKR<

Is it something like this?

It's possible that you're irritated soft tissues in the areas of the Pes Anserine which is a group of muscles on the medial aspect of the thigh as depicted in the first image.

@Josephine, thank you.

I guess my xrays look fine? I won't bother with a 2nd. opinion! Yay!

I had a better night last night since taking the anti-inflammatory. I took one today, too, but will take only a half of one tomorrow and then go off of them. I'll see how my knee reacts a few days after being off of it. I also called my OS's PA and went ahead and asked for the prescription for PT for ultrasound on the inflamed tendon. If that doesn't work then I'll go for a 2nd opinion. I don't want to have to take Diclofenac the rest of my life. My mother had two heart attacks and that stuff can be bad for your heart so I need to stay away from it!

Last night was completely different. The 'Brat' woke me up around 4am. This time it wasn't just the medial side, but the whole knee. I was unable to get back to sleep with the knee aching, and it didn't stop until I actually got up. I've not been back to bed yet, but the knee is not aching anymore. I only have the pain if I move it to either side with my foot on the floor. Having this nighttime pain is like it was before my tkr. Thank God walking doesn't hurt!

I called my PCP and asked for an order/prescription for a metal allergy test. I've not heard back yet. I should be getting the ultrasound prescription in the mail in the next few days. I've it a try. If it doesn't help, then I'll make an appointment with Jamie's 2nd recommendation for another opinion. Something is just not right.

There are times, like yesterday when I was making the bed, that I feel a burning, almost itchy feeling, in that lateral spot that I’ve always had a problem with. I want the allergy test done, too. Just in case.

The way I look at it, what can we lose? It's something we can check off the list if if comes back negative. If it comes back positive, then we will know what the problem is!
Is there a dislike button? Because both of you ladies are so sweet that I dislike this happening to you.
You are a God-send to so many of us! This is just part of our journeys that we will be able to use to help others! Isn't that what life is all about? Serving Him and serving His children!

I'm just stuck in that lack of patience thing. I want to know if something is really wrong with my knee or is this something I'll have to learn to live with. If so, I sure don't plan on getting the left one replaced! The new one was so much better a year ago. I want that back!

That's very kind of you to say and right back at ya!
And that is what life is about.

I saw a saying once that said :
Dear God, please give me patience. And give it to me now.

Made me chuckle.

I understand you wanting to get some answers.

I just heard from my PCP. He won't order the lab work for the metal allergy test. He's going to refer me to an allergist and will be calling me next week to set up for that referral. More unnecessary money Medicare has to pay out. This is so ridiculous. I feel like just giving up. What a run around.

Can you call the lab in Chicago and ask for advice?

I already did that when I had the test in hand last year. They said that even if I sent my blood sample back to them, that without a doctor's order they wouldn't do it.

With these specialist tests, it's quite probable that the doctor ordering it needs specialist training or instruction so he uses the appropriate nomenclature for the order. So your GP (or surgeon whoever it was!) mustn't have had the required experience to order it.

I remember when I was doing Occupational Health work, I occasionally had to do specialist blood or urine tests but I had to be registered before the lab would accept my instruction. I was one of very few nurses in that group that was thus registered.

I'm quite sure that the labs doing things like allergy tests would be that fussy!

If this is the case with this testing then I wish doctors would tell us that so we would understand and not think they just don’t agree or care.

Thank you so much for the information, Josephine. That helps me to feel better about it. I thought I was just being 'blown off' and no one wanting to deal with me. Jockette, you hit it on the head!

My nighttime pain was bad last night. The pain, this time, was in the bottom of my knee where the shaft goes into the bone and woke me up. It felt like something catching in there. These nighttime pains are literately a pain! I did walk about 2,000 steps more yesterday than what I normally do. But, a year ago I could walk much more than that with no repercussions. I am so disappointed and feel like crying.

You and me both!

Maybe call your surgeon’s office again and ask that your surgeon call you back at his convenience. He’s got the new X-rays, so there’s no need for you to go to the office. I would think he at least owes you a phone conversation. If he refuses, it might be time to move on to someone else.

I am waiting to receive the ultrasound order from his PA. I'll try that and if it doesn't help, I'll call the other doctor. I'm having pain in areas that aren't just the tendon spots and it's getting worse. Oh yeah, I measured my knee and it's 1/2" larger at the bottom area where it hurt last night. The rest of the knee is 1/2" smaller than the old, non tkr knee. This is the first time I've noticed swelling.

I wonder, when you make an appointment, with your current surgeon, who decides whether you see him or the PA?
