Hi, There was a posting a little while ago asking for the youngest person to have hip replacement. My son was 13 years old when he had bilateral prosthetic hip surgery. He now faces further surgery (6years on) to have the cups resecured as they have slipped. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

hi ennvoy....i was born with a condition called multiple epiphisal dysplasia and un fortunately all 3 of my children were born with the same thing. i just had my 1st hip replacement surgery 3 weeks ago and i am 35 but the dr's said that they would not do my boys until they were in there 30's because of the activity level of teens and people in their 20's. i hope your child does great with their new hip. if you don't mind my asking was it an accident your child was in or were they born with a defect like my boys and myself. just wondering because if surgery helps your child then maybe my could do it younger so they could enjoy a more pain-free childhood. my boys are 18, 16,and 14.

Hi, Ennvoy....welcome to the BoneSmart forum.

I would say your son was quite young to have had a joint replacement at 13. So sorry to hear that he needs further surgery now.

I'm from the knee side, but some of our "hippies" will likely respond to your post soon. Hopefully you will find forum members like Stewartfan to corresopnd with about your son's particular situation.

My goodness! Only 13? He hasn't even stopped growing yet. Hope there was a really good reason they did it at such an age.

Jo, Do you think the continuing bone growth the reason the cups slipped over time? Or is that just something that happens some of the time?
