I am in need of knee replacement. I have read much on the internet and have found the articles from BoneSmart to be the most helpful. I have cancelled my scheduled surgery because my Dr. does not do some of the things that I believe are important after my research. My problem now is how do I find a Dr. that does the things that I want to do. I want to find a Dr. that uses the techniques described in the article from The University of Missouri about Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement. Some features are:
1: smaller incisions
2: no cutting of tendons and or ligaments
3: minimum cutting of muscle
4: cementless implants
5: minimum or no physical therapy
6: surgery without tourniquets (muscles do not loose strength during surgery)
7: computer ***isted allignment

So how do I go about finding a Dr. that uses or does all of these things?

mike, I am so sorry I missed your post. What you are describing is called MIS/TKR - Minimally Invasive Surgery/Total Knee Replacement.

First I need to ask you where you live. Is it US or UK or elsewhere?

If it's in the UK, I can highly recommend the hospital I am going to which is the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore (North London) where the Department of Joint Reconstruction fulfills everything on your list. I live 300 miles north of this hospital but I'm going there for exactly the same reasons as you state! You can do this too. The only 'cons' are that you need to have some arrangement for getting yourself home post-op and you need to get the local hospital/surgeon to agree to see to your aftercare. Though your GP can do most of it, some needs to be done by a hospital but in my experience, most will agree to do that.

If you want more info - just pm/email me.

If you live in the US, I believe that your personal physician should be able to help you find such a surgeon but perhaps now I've bumped this thread, other members will chime in and offer their 2c!!
