I had my 3 month post-op check yesterday and all went well. My Doctor told me to come see him in a year. Great! However, I'm still really tight, and can't put on socks or shoes without the use of my hip-tools. He told me to start stretching, but nothing really too specific. I was looking for a routine...

Does anyone have any suggestions on stretching?

Ginny,

If you are not familar with stretching, I think it would be worth hiring a personal trainer to at least get you trained to stretch properly. There really are right and wrong ways to stretch! Try to find a trainer who is familar with hip precautions. There are also many good sites online, look into sites that deal with athletes. Once you start getting into a routine, you most likely will find you will stretch every day.

Yoga and pilates are also wonderful for keeping your body strong and flexible. Classes are usually plentiful and fun, but once again, you need to always keep some of your precautions in mind so it helps to have instuctors who have at least some knowledge of THR. Depending on the aproach of your surgery there will be some yoga positions you should not do.

Hi Gnny

I mentioned about Pilates in my post on Core Muscles - my physio is referring me to the sports centre under our local exercise on prescription scheme, he beleives it will help with stability and along with my physio my general posture & strength will improve.

Whilst waiting for a referral I contacted a friend that is a pilates teacher and she is doing sessions with me on a one to one basis; this way I am being watched all the time and she can help me get the moves more accurate. I am doing several of the moves each morning along with my PT and within this last couple of weeks I do notice a difference, not a lot but I've lots to do! Even my hubby says I look more toned!!!!

So the idea of a personal trainer is a good idea as long as you are aware of any restrictions you have eg 90 degree rule etc. BUT do check with your OS first, I have been referred so know I'm doing no harm, the last thing you want is to makes things worse.

Good Luck Karen
