Yet More Problems

Are all these second opinions fed back (edited ?) by the original surgeon?.

A totally independant opinion seems to be required, peferable a revision specialist who doesn't even know your OS

The two second opinion orthopedic surgeons were not connected to the first - in fact, are not in the same country. But I think their reluctance to diagnose could be a lack of experience in re-do's. If a second opinion is sought in Chicago, we might initially say the original work was done in Mexico and see how honest they would be!

Thanks - that's good information about warmth in the knee being a sign of looseness, something we weren't aware of.

This is what he reports today: The knee is a little warmer than the other one but not painful, however I did take Mobicox the last two nights. It does make a hell of a racket when I flex it in the silence of the apartment. There is a lot of crunching and snapping going on and when I place my hand on it I can feel all of the tendons on the outside moving and making a lot of racket, much like it was in the beginning. When I do the same thing with the good knee it is cool, and silent to the ear and the hand, functioning normally. After just repeatedly testing the function of the right knee there is a little constant pain on the outside, near where the tendons move over the joint. It could just be the way I am currently sitting that is causing it. There is always a little pain or discomfort with it that you just learn to ignore and thus forget about until you start thinking about it, especially after trying to evaluate its current condition.

Our two second opinions were totally independent - in fact, in a different country, but may have been slanted by inexperience in re-do's.

Boy, I sure am sorry what you have had to go thru SunshineDoc and family. This has had me thinking about hospitals and what they should be telling patients before they go into surgery about who does what.

When I had my hysterectomry almost 4 years ago, I recall signing something that my Dr. would be the only Dr. operating on me and that a Resident Dr. would be watching my operation but would not participate in it. Now 3 years later, I didn't sign anything like that. So I suppose my Dr. and his regular team (whom I guess would be his PA and whomever else goes along with the team) didn't use anyone else as I always wondered why I didn't have to sign a similar paper. But I would like to ask who originally cut my knees open because I can tell it bothers my Doc when he sees my darker than usual scars. But I have no room to complain as I had the best and it was a 2nd opinion Doc and I luckily did my homework.

But I read the article you posted up there and I'm like YIKES. This same thing happened back in my hometown of Memphis where some high profile docs got caught. I believe ENT's....One of them was a specialist that my daughter was referred to when young but surgeon here in ATL ended up doing the surgery.

So it may be a good question to ask who is going to do your surgery is what I'm getting at, especially, if yours walked out on the last 2 hours. But that would blow the plan as a Doc could really call anyone on his team.

I realize Doctors have a hard time and are so busy and the system is totally messed up and we are losing them like we did nurses.

Sunrise, you are correct that you need these additional opinions from surgeons who are revision specialists. These are the doctors who consistently perform more complex surgeries and redo problem joints. You sometimes can find out whether a surgeon has this specialty by reading their biographies on their web pages. But, other times you must call and ask. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Yes, revision is a speciality all on it's own. Revision surgeons have the knack of being able to look at things from a totally different point of view and spot issues your regular hip surgeon can't. They have a better 'eye'.
