I also drop lots of stuff---the issue was in my elbows and neck. A neurologist could help you pin point the source of the problem.

The knee gives way because the muscles are weak---I think You might need to do more quad sets and leg lifts to get that quad muscle working like it should be.

On your bad leg, a knee will also buckle because of pain---it is basically telling your body that it cannot take that much pain.

Thank you ski girl I will suggest that referral to my doctor I do static bike every day but will add more exercises

January 20 2015 total knee replacement and knee cap all went well usual recovery until July when I started to get extreme pain at front side of knee and especially front blew knee after numerous appointments with doctor and X-rays my most recent X-ray I got letter today saying X-ray shows changes that are persistent and may indicate possible loosening of prothesis what is annoying it was my doctor and not the hospital that discovered it I had made an appointment to see the surgeon and instead saw the assistant who just felt it and said all was fine no X-rays nothing
Would appreciate anyone with this experience who can suggest what I need to ask and options if it has loosened thank you

I'm sorry to hear that you could have loosening of your prosthesis.

It would be a good idea now to look for a second opinion from a surgeon who specializes in knee revisions. He will be used to looking at problem knees and can examine your knee with new eyes, uninfluenced by you previous surgeon's thoughts. You'll need someone who is not connected at all with your current surgeon - not in the same practice, golf club or old boys' network.

Should your knee need to be revised, don't let your current surgeon do it - he had his one chance!
You can look for a surgeon using the facility on BoneSmart - use the "Find a Clinic" function in the blue bar at the top of the page - or @Jamie might be able to suggest some doctors, if you give her your post code.

Homeport,
Sorry to hear you have loosening.
I agree with Celle, you need second opinion with a surgeon who specializes in revisions.
Since you are in the UK @Josephine can help with locating a new surgeon.
She is having technical problems, she may take extra time to respond.

Thank you both for your replies I had thought going back to him best option he has a great reputation and I assumed it could be prothesis and not his work?

Homeport,
A lose implant is most likely a result of poor technique applying the bone cement, the prosthesis is fine. So you should not go back to the same surgeon.

Oh how depressing, I am sorry to hear this. I do agree that before you have more surgery you need to have new eyes look at the knee. A revision specialist is someone who is trained to look at knees and see what could be causing the problems.

It is all pretty depressing it was going so well

These two ladies have given you very sound advice. I agree---you need to see another OS to get a second opinion, and then find an OS who specializes in TKR revisions.
You'll need someone who is not connected at all with your current surgeon - not in the same practice, golf club or old boys' network.
Again---excellent information---most people that work together are of the same mindset and tend to think alike and approach issues and concerns in a similar way. You need to find an OS who is in no way connected to the office of the surgeons that you used.

Thank you I am researching now and what questions I need to ask

Saw doctor this morning to discuss X-ray results and basically a few things going on. He thinks first X-ray showed periprosthetic lucency around the femoral component but that it had not altered from the earlier xray on 15 August that is why he is suggesting it might be loose. But like he says he does not know and does want me to use a stick because knee is giving way. I'm to go back to see the original surgeon in first instance. Don't suppose he will be well pleased I had appointment with him but saw his side kick about three weeks ago who felt knee and said its fine. No X-ray or conferring with surgeon.

Made me feel I as if I was bothering them to be honest, hence doctor getting this last X-ray done.

I guess from reading this lucency could be within allowed perimeters but don't know.
Then he thinks I have tendinitis at front below knee and also inside part of knee muscle issues so I also got referral back to physio.

Ha s any one come across the top issue and maybe could throw light on whether this is likely to be loosening
Thanks

I don't know about the potential loosening, but for the tendinitis don't let them talk you into overworking the knee. You can ice for that and rest it (sounds like they want you to use a cane for the instability, so that could give the tendinitis a break too.) Probably some gentle stretches too.

I'm going to ask @Josephine , our Nurse Administrator, to advise you about your X-Ray results - discussed in Post #153.

She's having some internet problems, so it could be a few days before she can reply.

I agree, I was just going to tag Josephine myself. I think you are going to have to look around for the doctor in your area who does revisions. He will be more interested in tracking down a problem and giving you a solution.

Oh, I just realized you are from the Uk---Josephine then will be the one to give your the right info.

It's not easy to discern loosening. One needs to have seen a number of affected xrays to be able to tell which is and which isn't a loosening.

Yes I agree Josephine without knowing what first one done day after op I don't see how they can tell it might have been like this from start

The tendinitis I will try icing thank you

It looks like I will have appointment now in new year to see surgeon and will put off any physio until I know for certain what issue is I already have Mri booked for January for back as they think I also have separate issue with femoral nerve
