My scar has been so ugly, puckered, just nasty looking. The only place it looked "normal" (how normal can a scar look?) was at the bottom of my knee. It was flat and smooth with the straight scar. At the top though, oy. Plus strange puckered areas here and there from the staples up and down the scar.

I noticed this morning that a lot of the puckered areas have smoothed out and the scar is now mostly flat save for about 1.5 inches at the top (near the quad cut). Even that part, though still thick and ugly-looking, is starting to settle down.

I've been rubbing Aquaphor on it 2-3 times per day. If anything it makes it feel better and less itchy, so I guess it's doing SOMETHING!

Anyone else have a scar that makes them think they'll look like Frankenstein's monster for the rest of their lives?

Hi Kim I have similar issues and just saw my OS and he had to actually go into the scar in one area and pull out a stitch that had not dissolved. I thought that I had the start of an infection because it was seeping clear fluid an very red. He told me that this is normal and proceeded to go into the scar and fish out the 1/2 inch long stitch OUCH! Anyway it cleared up quick after he did this and I have another spot that may have the same issue? He told me to just wait and in time the body will absorb the stitches. I hope so..........

I am just sooooo glad that I do not have the same pain now as I had pre op, I do not worry about my scar........It's not that bad but it's actually the least of my probs..
Unless your scar is causing you physical pain and problems.....I say dont worry..but thats only my opinion....
thanks god we can walk again without being in pain...

love and hugs Pat xx

Kim, your scar is barely six weeks old! You can't expect skin to heal that quickly. Maybe in six months you can make such judgments but not before. Don't try and hurry it. It will heal nicely in its own time.

Like Jo said, time will make it look better. I didn't have staples and my scar was pretty smooth I guess,, to be honest I didn't really look at it I was so thrilled to be able to walk without the terrible pain I had prior to surgery. Now, alomst five months post op it is just a scar, sort of proud of it, means I survived the battle. Good luck. Rowdy

I saw my surgeon yesterday for my 6-week check and he said to just keep massaging that top part of the scar that is still so puckered (it looks like the staples are still in, frankly). He said it would eventually calm down.

Well, this morning I was rubbing Aquaphor into it, and pushed on one part of the puckered area and felt a little "plink." Hmmm. I pushed again a little higher up, and again...plink. You got it, I was "popping" internal stitches that hadn't chosen to dissolve yet. Once those four internal stitches popped, that part of my scar now lies mostly flat. WOW. There was no pain when the internal stitches popped...it just let the scar lie flat. YAY!

I like that Rowdy, "I survived the battle." Guess we have haven't we? (This one at least! LOL )
