THR Worries about pain and recovery<

Thankyou once again Layla....going to have an x.ray in next couple of weeks...spoke to OS today and will schedule prior to my PT appt...at the hospital 200 miles away...he is confident its muscular....hope his right...hugs to you too:angel:

Hello @Misscarol

I am so sorry to read you are feeling down and are experiencing pain. I don’t know if this will help you, but I am weeks ahead of you and still have pain and use cane daily. Soft tissue pain really hurts, so try not to let your mind imagine the worst possible scenario. Try to get an X-ray as soon as possible, to make sure everything is where it should be.

My recovery will be prolonged too. It does get me down some days. I keep a journal of daily progress. Recently I read back over three months of entry’s. Felt much better remembering that I am steadily improving. I had lots of surgery too, pin removal, fracture didn’t heal. So as best as I can figure it’s a combination of lots of soft tissue repair as well as muscle accommodation for months of pain prior. We won’t bounce back, but inch back is definitely possible. Sending healing vibes and wishes for a comforting visit to your surgeon. :friends:

Thankyou Fit4Family...l hear what you say about progress and l rejoice on good days , but , it seems short lived...another problem arises...at the moment, my whole back from shoulder blades to base is so painful....feels l just need it clicked into place !!...l am so sorry to hear of your journey and wish for you a very happy outcome....l hope for us both to look back at our recovery and "spit in its face " (a friend of mine comment )...:heehee:....many thanks.

Hi @Misscarol
Best of luck with the x-ray. Let us know what you hear.
Wondering if a massage would make you feel better as you wait for your appointment? It may relax you and ease some of the pain you're dealing with.
Wishing you comfort and a peaceful weekend. :console2:

Had a massage on Tuesday...felt wonderful at the time, but , everything has flared up worse than before....just need to turn a corner...l live in hope that one day l will wake up feeling good...l am throwing everything l can at this.....reiki , massage and counselling.....thanks again Layla....:loveshwr:

@Misscarol

The trouble with recovery is that it does affect the whole body in one way or another...

I’m 5 months post op with 2nd THR & although the hip is wonderful the rest of my body seems to want to claim attention... back, shoulders, arms, etc. However, I remember it well from my first THR... that after 6-9 months my body seemed to realign to the new hip & the pains faded away..

My sis and I joke & ask “where have you got your pains today”

It will get better... for sure ...

Hope you have a better weekend xxxxx

Thanks so much Hoppy Nanny.....its always nice to know...your not the only one....just have to remain optimistic to a pain free future :happydance:...it cannot come soon enough ...have a lovely day my friend....

We will get there!!!! @Misscarol

I used to dream of pain free walking, think I’m so tired now I’ve stopped dreaming. I still believe it’s possible. I do agree it’s the body making adjustments. Last week my knees were both cracking like crazy. This week it’s my cane hand and shoulder from using cane for balance. Heat really helps my muscles too. I ice hip and knee and apply moist heat to middle of leg and shoulders. Heat really helps loosen up stiff femoral muscles. Even calf muscles some days.

Keep the faith. Each week brings tiny improvements. They will add up in the end.

Aaaawww Fit4family...l know what you mean...l wish that for you too:friends:...the heat is something l have been thinking of....just about to order a heat pad...thankyou...on the knee front l can hear the operated leg one crackling as l go upstairs...bizarre....Have a good day my friend.

I had mine on June 5th, this year. Got out of bed this morning n my hamstring hurts ankles hurt, hip hurts, back hurts, but once I get going it gets better. I’ve been doing PT for a couple of weeks, I’m very stiff, so we have been doing a lot of stretches and yesterday she worked on strengthening. I also do pool therapy once a week, I really like the pool, she works on range of motion, she said I’m so stiff n I need to do these exercises daily. Since going to PT I walk unaided with no limp. I can tie my shoes, barely, both were goals of mine. Still can’t put on socks without the contraption. So I still hurt but I’m improving. My hip ache is so much better than a month ago. I’m healing very well, maybe slower than I want but I am healing. Also I go to the gym, a couple days ago, did 15 minutes on bike, another goal is to go bike riding on the bike trails near my house. So hang in there, stay positive, thank God for the small improvements and you shall recover.

Your doing well Marvin...3 weeks after me...but l am limping on walking...but...l can put shoes on without contraption...its the strengthening...the key...l hope ...onwards and upwards my friend.....its not the easy fix l was led to believe....friends just don't get it...they always know someone who was scaling Everest in 2 weeks :loll:and then you have to fight your corner and feel as if your exaggerating the situation....anyone else feel that way??...everyone, except us :flabber: are experts....rant over...stay well my friend...

Question ???.....is it normal for hip /thigh to feel stiff and sore when walking unaided ??...friends say "walk through it "...but don't want to overdo it , as you all know , this has been a longer journey, due to previous complications...Also this bursitis????possibly??.....have a sore spot about about 2inch circle that hurts like a bruise when pressed !!!...right in buttock about 3 inch in from hip joint...anyone else had this....Anyway, apart from that going to see a counsellor tonight , who specialises in trauma...l am hoping she works her magic on me , as this depression is overwhelming :what:....my mind is just doing overtime....feel like a hamster on a wheel...from being so independent...l now feel soooo vulnerable.....well...fellow hippies ...have a good day...l am certainly trying :praying:...X

The therapy is called EMDR....eye movement and desensitization reprocessing...anyone had this ??? ...

Hi MissCarol:wave: Never heard of the EMDR but after Google schooling...sounds promising. Hope it helps.

have a sore spot about about 2inch circle that hurts like a bruise when pressed !!!...right in buttock about 3 inch in from hip joint...anyone else had this....
Could be a tender Piriformis muscle.
This muscle is used for almost every activity like standing, walking...pretty much all movements with hip.
There is some information about it in our library
https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/piriformis-syndrome.9837/

Thankyou @Mojo333 ...but it doesn't go down back of leg !!...but other signs are there ...l will let you know about therapy.....sending you a

Hi @Misscarol So glad to read about the EMDR, have heard many positive things about it.
Having a tight piriformis doesn't always have the leg symptoms.. If that is indeed the muscle bothering you, the stretches can help IF you are at the stage of doing them. The link that Layla included also shows massaging that area with a ball but on the floor., I avoid getting on the floor and place the ball between the sore side of my butt and a wall and roll it around that way.. very helpful ..
I love seeing you taking the steps to get better, you will get though this..

Oh thankyou @CricketHip ...l will try that..but...if it is bursitis ??...will that not make it worse??....will post how the EMDR went...fingers x'd :tiredwheel:

Good question @Misscarol but isn’t your bursitis on the lateral side of your hip?
We are talking about the middle of your posterior hip, correct?
So I had a lot of relief with the ball rolling in that area along with ice.
Can’t wait to hear your update. :praying:
