Hi Folks,
I've just acquired a wii fit....it sounded a bit trite but the kids are having fun. There are a few games which are fun for us hippies.....skiing, hula hoops and the tightrope will be fun as a way of exercising with the kids etc....
Anybody else tried it? Which exercises did you like....or not like as the case may be?
They do a basic body age and I came out 8 years YOUNGER despite having had a THR!!! only 5 ish weeks ago!:thmb::thmb:

Hooray, Chris!!! You young pup, you....

I think there was another thread here about Wii exercises. You might do some searching if you're interested. Everything I've ever heard about the Wii system was VERY positive.

Ah I like Wii Fit , so much fun... Gets my kids involved as well.....Lil family time...Im all for that !!!

It's a blast! When I'm cleared of limitations I'm going to try the yoga to see if that will help with ROM. I love the skiing and the ski jump. The hula hoop is fun but I like watching my wife doing it better than doing it myself

Scott you cheeky thing! I was rather impressed when I beat my 13 year old daughters hula hoop.....the skiing is fun too and gets you moving that pelvis around!

I bought a wii fit last year when they came out (was one of the lucky ones to get one asap) love it. I like the walking trail ok it is suppose to be jogging trail, but at 68 it is walking. Love playing with all my kids, their spouses and my grandkids and hubby.

It's a blast! Some things are a real workout, others just plain fun, & some surprisingly challenging! (I'm a great hula-hooper, but can't box worth a darn--always getting smacked! :hehe:)

Anyway, I was the one that started the the previous Wii thread over in Lifestyles. Here's a link for anyone interested.

I *m. The bowling champ (not!). .....I think I bowled and by ball landed in the lane next to me! But. I think I got a strike.....THERE!!! A great workout! Now I have to get back to it! :)

yep that will make your arm sore.
I like the one you dodge the balls and the shoes and other things thrown at you. Or at least you are suppose to but I seem to get hit in the head a lot. Sure glad it is just a game

Mud, it's the exercise and sports program for the Wii. You have a balance board, and use various hand controls or whatever they are called. Someone else can probably explain it a lot better than me!:sct:

Wii fit is a games attachment which has a selection of exercises largely in a game format, which connect to the Wii games console that connects to the tv (kind of like a playstation but actually nothing like it) . There's a balance board that you stand on, which detects your movements and how well you are maintaining your centre of balance...Some exercises are serious Yoga type exercises and muscle building (such as push ups etc) , whilst others are really trivial and fun, but have a serious goal (eg the tightrope makes you really concentrate on walking evenly and well balanced in a fun way....and the hula hoop makes you move those hips!.....Having said all of this I'm not sure how useful it would be if you were a healthy person (and not joint afflicted) I think it might not have enough challenge? I guess its up to the individual to add repetitions etc for themselves...and to push themselves a little more. I mentioned balance to my GP and she said she recommends the Wii fit to her 'Mother" patients who struggle to get any exercise with babies in tow....she also said there's another disc that you can buy which is more active and challenging. She reckoned that she works up a sweat with it.
I'm happy to start with the basic unit at this stage....and bottom line is that its a fun way to do what we all need to do anyway in order to strengthen and become more flexible....flexibility is not my middle name!

Yep we have a Wii and a lot of the balance games, skiing/snowboarding, bubble down the river..etc are great for the micro-movements required of your leg muscles. My kids sya I bowl like Fred Flintstone...ha ha ha.
