Doug - you flirt!
[Bonesmart.org] Who should handle my next steps?

DD - if you like messing around with coding and stuff, have you ever thought of trying remote computer support? Would give you some income if you could get it going and only work when you felt up to it.

I have a friend in PA who does that. In his job as IT manager for his firm, he has to provide remote support to their other units in Rio and Hong Kong! He has worked on my computers for me at times as well! He also has his own website but that's become a forum for his pals to josh around on so doesn't generate much business for him. He tends to get work by word of mouth, mostly. I expect you know the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Yup!

By the time I finally gave in and scheduled my TKA, I was working from home almost exclusively. I was the top tech in a large consulting firm's "managed services" group -- basically doing what you describe but in a "contract support" role. There's almost nothing that can't be done remotely now...

I'm not the least bit worried about finding a job really, I'm just stuck until I can get this knee fixed. I have private disability insurance, they're (of course) giving me a hard time - haven't been paid since May 15. I'm giving them a couple of more days, then I'm going to sic an Atty. on them. This is nonsense...

I'm so much stronger, my knee is so much better pain-wise except for when I'm walking. Get that fixed and I'll be a new man...

Thanks, though -- If you think your friend might need some help, feel free to shoot me a PM if you like and I'll give you my contact info!

DD
