Today is my 3 week anniversary from surgery! Question about the swelling...

When did you find your swelling was completely gone? The area by the incision is still swollen for me at 3 weeks. It's significantly better from week 1, but still a bit swollen.

Just curious...

I wouldn't worry about it, Melissa. I just felt mine when I read your post, and I probably still have a very slight bit of swelling in a couple of places at almost 9 weeks! And it is still a little bit tender if I press on it.

Might be gone after 3 months. Then again, it might not! Different for everybody - don't worry about it.

Swelling has been a concern of mine as well. (I am a worry wart too) Mine is still pretty swollen and most of my pants don't fit even tho I lost 10 pounds. Will massage help? The thing that really concerns me is that it's not swelling but the actual "new" hip bone that is sticking out. Is that possible?

As highly improbable as to be impossible. The best treatment for swelling is icepacks.

I noticed the same thing... I looked like I had really large hips, whereas before I didn't.... finally figured it to be swollen still... and I agree, worry-warting is what i do! :)

.Me too, Sisters!!! I wouldn't go for a massage until your incision is totally closed! There's always
Time for that! Rubbing Vitamin E oil on your scar will be soothing, too!!! :)

Hurting -when was your surgery date again? That's odd that your pants aren't fitting even though you lost weight. I guess you just need to be patient for the swelling to completely go down. At 3 weeks post op, I have only put on sweats pants so far, haven't attempted jeans or work pants yet -so not sure if this is an issue for me yet.

My surgery was Feb 26 so it's almost 6 weeks. Jeans are impossible as there is no give. I Have some Gap cords that have a little stretch in them that feel ok. The problem is I may have to go back to work on Monday so am wondering what the heck I am going to wear, lol

......:Hurting,,,,, leggings!
,,,,,,,,,,,,,Dave... Diet!!!!! :)

Hurting, what sort of work do you do? Try pull on pants that have a bit of give...I bought some today, perfect for sore/swelling hips, but no pockets, zips etc

Good morning, I remember worrying that the swelling would never go away but it did after several weeks. Also remember not feeling comfortable in my jeans. But for me, sometime between 6 and 8 weeks, all went away and my pants fit. Just in time to go back to work. Of course I was walking and still did not have my regular appetite (took me a long time to get that back for some reason).

Think I mentioned on another thread that my operated hip side is more "buff" now than my other. Though now with even more exercise, the indentation is more pronounced.

All this is not really important compared to feeling great. Had a good walk this a.m. and really sped along.
Have a good day.

YoungM-After swelling enormously at days 3-4, post -op, I have begun to see some reduction in swellling. My thighs first, then from my knees to ankle, then my ankles. My feet are still huge. This, by th eway, was exactly the order in which my body swelled in the first place. My in-home PT said "don't worry about it...it may get worse, depending upon how much rehab you are doing, but it should get better in 2-4 weeks.

Yeah i didn't attempt any kind of pant(jeans included) that had a pronounced seam on the side until about 6 weeks post-op. I couldn't imagine anything rubbing in that area. I'm ok now, with Jeans, but honestly, I've caught it a couple of time, rubbing up against a wall or table or counter, and that seam and my incision area about drop to the floor! It HURTS!

I wore sweats for so long, that once I put on a pair of jeans again, my hubby followed me around the house half drooling saying "I forgot how good you could make a pair of jeans look!" HAHAHAHAHA, he's a big dork, but I suppose seein your wife in sweats for 6 weeks will do that do ya!

LOL Prinny!! You go girl! That's how I feel about the jeans -I can't imagine that texture rubbing on my incision. It's still tender to the touch. I will wait it out until I need to wear them. Thanks all for your comments too.
