Went to have one to one physio yesterday. The consultant sent me as he said I am walking badly. the PT said my body is out of alignment - pelvis is twisted, spine is curving left and I have no strength in my right hip. TKR is right side and she said Im walking badly to compensate and because of this my new knee is twisting when Im walking. She has given me exercises to strengthen my right hip . I asked if she thought my new knee would be fine in time after exercising and she said "I hope so". I didnt feel very confident after I left!

Is it possible to straighten out a body using exercise? I wonder if yoga would be good idea and I want to swim. The scar on my knee is a bit tender yet for chlorine in the swimming baths. I will try anything that will help. Maybe an osteopath in the future - - -

Oh Kipper! How disheartening! To ease your mind, why don't you make an appointment with your surgeon, osteopath,or chiropractor!
I'm sorry I can't give you any medical advice but my prayers are certainly with you! Please post & I hope you get everything sorted out FAST!

I am working on the same question. I hope you get some good answers. I always have said I was twisted.
If I remember I will ask my physical therapist that question. I am doing some stretches daily to address the shoulder area, shoulders going forward.
I hope I remember

Write it down girl! You have enough on your plate! :)

I had several alignment issues post op.

1. My hip joints started hurting and actually cramping in and around the joint.

2. Lower back pain.

3. foot pain.

4. Heel pain.

to make a long story short they all went away as PT progressed along its normal path. I had ask my DR. about some of these concerns and he said the body has to have time to re-align from year of walking odd because of bad knees ( the knees are one of the basic alignment features). One thing I found strange is I had to buy all new shoes, you could not see any visible wear but my feet hurt constantly until I started buying new ones.

Good luck!

Max!!!! Thank you! THAT was JUST the excuse I was looking for!!!! (To buy new shoes!),,,as if I needed one, ladies! :)

Well Max you have certainly said the right thing! New shoes! I have always had a problem buying shoes that fit me . My feet have to wear flat shoes and they are very wide. I found Birkenstocks and was very happy!

spent the day exercising and doing "squats" ? Thighs hurt but I can SEE a muscle coming now!!

Kipper, based on my weight training experience and some college courses, I would have to say that, no, you can't straighten a "twisted body with exercise only. What you can do though is to strengthen the supportive musculature so that further stress isn't places on the weak area. Typically, for a slight curvature, core strengthening is used. That being the stomach(abs), obliques(side muscles), lats(upper back), and spinal erector muscles on both sides of the spinal column.
My wife is having to do that now with her curvature. She also does yoga and pilates.
With the knee, It will take some time and patience. Our knees didn't go downhill overnight and it will tale time to build the strength up.
My TKR was 13 months ago. I just got home from shopping and again marveled that I was walking without a limp and I didn't hurt.
Hang in there....

Kipper, I think you've received some excellent advice in these posts. Try not to worry for now and just go with the therapist to see how it works out. The idea to purchase new shoes sounds good too. Can you wear wide tennis shoes? Something like Reboks can provide good foot support. And time.....the most difficult part of recovery....giving yourself time to get things back in alignment. My heart is with you!!

Yeh! Reeboks! good idea! Will try. All I need now is to get out somewhere to do this shopping! It will be fantastic to hit the shops once again.

yes -you lot really do come up trumps! xxxx

Here in the states, you can buy Reboks in wide sizes. Hope they are available that way in England too! I find they give my feet lots of stabilization when walking and exercising.

Jamie, thanks for that bit of very useful info - I didnt know about wide sizes in rebok but now I can find out. a quick look on the internet should do it! Thanks so much!

Oh boy! How soon after BTKR will I be ready to go shoe shopping??? I can hardly wait!

Well you in the U. S. of A have the best Reebok shopping as far as I can see! the best ones I can find that are nice and wide are on eBay and from USA - will have another look tomorrow!

See we are all in the mood for shoe shopping !!!!

Sticker Lady, Im 12 weeks after my RTKR now and only just in the mood to even THINK about new shoes! Im still hanging around in old lace ups that happen to fit! You could be a lot sooner though and I hope you are ready to go~!!

Darn, Doug - you beat me to it! I was going to suggest Pilates.

Kipper, anything can happen given time and patience. Look at it this way, good you had this identified and can get some help sorting it. Just consider if your surgeon had let it slide and left you in all that pain. Doesn't bear thinking about.

Go for it. Girls,,,,we have to do our part to $timulate our economie$ !!!!

You may not believe this (cross my heart and hope to die.....) but I have a day of shopping planned with my sister - for what you may ask? New shoes of course!!!!! :)

Peta

You go,girl!!!! Can't wait to heart what you've bought!!!:)
