What is the magic # for ROM

Don't know what the number is...however usually somewhere around 115 or 120 OR what is comfortable for your lifestyle.

I was going to say 120 but if you want to do more in trms of sport i believe more but i think that number was thrown out alot....but everyone is different please remember that if you can bend and do the things you want with no pain that is success............good luck.......)

This is exactly what my OS told me during the appointment we discussed the MUA (which I ended up having a week later)-

"You won't be happy until you can bend to 110, 115..."

I'm at least that now (possibly more). I was told by a PT (not the one I had for my knee) that we need 110 to be able to handle stairs comfortably.

Geez.......I can't remember the last time that I could go up and down stairs the "normal way." Right now I can go up the stairs w/o too much pain, but going down the stairs is a different thing.

Practically speaking I think you need a little negative on one end or you can't stand comfortably for a long time. (If full extension is positive it still takes quad muscles to stand, if it goes negative then it just locks and requires very little muscule involvement
to maintain.

On the other end, you need somewhere in the 115 range to get up without
aid from a sitting position (read toilet)

So both are valid targets.

I believe it may depend on the optimum ROM for your particular implant.
I had 135 ROM with both knees prior to my BTKR surgery.
My OS surgeon told me the optimum ROM possible for my implant is 135. I do believe I have 135 with both knees post op. I have the Depuy Rotating Platform complete knee system by Johnson & Johnson.

It's not only the flexion - which can be anything from 110 - 120 or so, but the extension as well which should be -5 or more. If that number isn't right, you could find it difficult to stand properly.
