I know someone has posted a list of things somewhere because I read it awhile back but can't find it in a search of previous posts so I'm sorry to be asking again. I am not a vegetarian or anything special. What should I take tomorrow? Someone DID tell me to unpack my book. LOL.

Be sure to take a fleece jacket to wear to keep you warm. When your medication starts to wear off you get cold.....
I brought shorts and tank tops to wear during the day, in PT during rehab and a short night gown for at night.
Shoes? I wear Merrell mesh clogs that are easy to slip on and give good support.
Good Luck tomorrow!
Best,
Crystal

Joey,

I'll be thinking of you! I know you will do great. Just remember to keep your eye on the prize---- all the things you want to do that you haven't been able to do because of your knee. It is amazing!

The things I wanted most at the hospital were good hand lotion and a way to freshen my mouth--- getting up to brush my teeth was a highlight! The meds gave me a horrible taste in my mouth and the hospital's toothpaste and mouthwash just didn't help....

It's ok to be nervous. If they ask if you want something to help you "relax" tell them yes. They really have some great med options to lessen your anxiety and make it easier.

I'll be watching for you "on the other (recovery) side"! Best wishes to you!

Carolyn

Hey Guy's and gal's I was thinking about asking this type of question also but did not want to sound silly. What have you guy's brought and what didn't you bring that you wish you had? I will not have anyone there after the first day because I will be sending my Wife Home,265.00 a night is just to much for us so I absalutly want to be totally prepatred with everything that I will need for my short stay..... Did not mean to butt in there Roo but this is somthing that has been on my mind also......

In the hospital I needed absolutley nothing. Wore their gown and ate their food. Short walk with walker in hall was fine wearing hospital gown. Was uncomfortable so I did not read any of the magazines that I had brought.

For rehab I just packed some comfortable gym shorts and tee shirts.

Take choclate, the most important thing I forgot to tell you....Just incase you read here first. Choclate makes women feel good no matter what hurts!!!!!!

Howdy,

I'd take anything that will help you relax. I used my computer and a friend had an Ipod with his favorite music. I could not concentrate long enough to read a book. However, I played computer solitare and wrote emails. Maybe a favorite pillow and some shorts to wear to pt and home. Good luck, Tom

Don't know if all hospital have them but our hospital had pull-on socks with rubber bottoms. My husband also couldn't concentrate, so his sudoku puzzle book came in handy. Oh, bring a pen... pens in hospitals are scarse. We splurged for a night nurse during his stay (I was with him throughout the day). My husband didn't want it but ended up saying it was one of my best suggestions... backrubs, sponge baths, change of sheets, change of hospital gowns. It wasn't inexpensive but we're on medicare with Blue Cross supplement, so the night nurse was our only expense.

It seems unanimous that no one was able to read a book. I brought one last year for other surgery and read the first page a lot!!! I did bring my music, never listened to it. Wore the hospital gown the whole time. A second one in the hallway.
I had no appetite, so snacks people brought me just went home. I mostly doze in and out of consciousness!!!

I think I would bring my own toothbrush if I ever find myself in the hospital again. The hospital one falls apart and I have to get the bristles out of my teeth!!
I did also bring my own favorite pillow (a suggestion from the joint replacement class) with a bright pillowcase.

Good luck
Judy

Roo -
Best of luck tomorrow! I tried some light reading - "shmut" magazines like people or intouch - I had trouble focusing on anything so my husband read them for the few moments he actually visited. My own toothbrush and toothpaste. My own shampoo that I reallllllly like - The smell of it made me feem better. Wished I would have brought some shower gel - just again to make me feel like I was human. Shorts and tshirts. I had my UGG slip ons since they are super comfy. I might have brough my own pillow - Now that I think of it - Next time (if necessary - hopefully this will be it for me) I would definitely do that. I also had my itouch - which is and Ipod and mini-internet all combined. I loaded a movie on it - but never watched it. I was lucky and had some super nurses who always made sure I had diet coke. If not I would have had my hubby bring some. Don't forget your brush and dryer for your hair- I wore mine clipped up - less trouble. Brought some makeup but never went that far. I also had my own crutches so I had them as well.

Do me a favor - before you go home ask the PT or the OT for a harness - or leash. It looks like a dog leash but it has the loop on both sides. One side is stiff and squarish and the other is like the reg. dog leash handle. The leash itself is stiff. You loop your operated foot through the stiff end and it helps move your leg - mine felt like a bag of cement. It was a godsend. Don't wait - ask about it the first time you need to get up if your leg feels like cement. I can't imagine not having that thing.

Good luck - we'll be waiting to hear how you are doing!

For me, jammies with shorts and/or knit shorts and teeshirt and fresh undies. I took the books, IPOD and computer but between sleeping, constant interruptions from doctors, nurses, cleaners, etc., PT and inability to focus due to pain meds, they were quite unnecessary.

If your hospital TV has a DVD player (a few do) you might want to bring a silly comedy or something.

I used my own nightgown and robe once the IV was out. I didn't need my own pillow since I could only sleep on my back. I also appreciated my own shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, and toothpaste. My hospital has only all-private rooms (this is a very, very good thing), so I just had the television on all the time. The Olympics would be a great thing to have on--it's interesting, but you can't really concentrate all that long.
