Hey My Mum Been Told That After She As Had Her Full Knee Replacement She Can Not Work Again.

Does Anyone Have Any Suggestions What She Can Do To Pass The Time.

Thanks

Hi there dominokat.

Could you perhaps tell us what age your mum is and what she kind of work she did? Who told her she could not work again and did they give any specific reasons? All of this will help us give you a better answer.

Hey

My Mum Is 51 And It Was The Specailist That Said She Cant Work Again. It Was About 3 Weeks Ago Now When She Saw Him And He Said You Must Have It Done Because There No Knee There Any More And You Wont Be Able To Work.

My Mum Used To Work As A Cleaner Then She Worked In A Factory Packing Things.

As Well As My Mum Knee, She Also As High Blood Pressure And Anginer(i Spelt It Wrong But Its A Heart Condition, Runs In The Family) And Only One Kidney.

So Apart From Having Her Knee Op In October November Time, She Upset She Cant Work Again.

So If Anyone Can Suggested Things To Do It Be Most Helpful

Thanks

Gosh, she is young to be in that situation. I would think the specialist has more than you are able to give me for it's uncommon for them to be so clear cut about a thing like that unless they have good reason to think it.

Sounds like she's had a hard life doing cleaning. So if she still needs to work, perhaps when she's got better, she could get help from the Job Centre and speak with an advisor. She'll need a job that it sitting down but where she has the freedom to get up and move around at times. They should be able to help her find such a place.

Her other conditions should be too much of a problem providing they're not making her unwell.

Good Working Ppl Cant Get Nothing Its Not Fair

Hey

I Spoke To My Mum, She Can Go Back To Work After Her Knee Replacement. She Is Not Allowed To Work Untill After Her New Knee, But My Mum Been Told She Cant Have Any Money Because She As Not Paid Enough National Insurance Brcause She Worked Part Time So At The Moment She Is Worried About Money Which Is Not Good When She As Her Op To Worry About. So Does Anyone Know Anything That I Can Try To Help My Mum Because She Is As A Sick Note From The Specialist Untill End Of Sept Then Hopefully The Op Is In Oct. So Cant Get A Job And She Cant Get Money Because She As Paid Enough National Insurance Which I Think Is Wrong Because My Mum As Always Worked Part Time And Never Not Work. So Does Anyone Know What I Can Do

Thanks

That is an awful situation for her to be in. And one that, sadly, happens to a lot of low income people when they become unwell.

She needs to contact her local Social Security office and discuss her circumstances with them. Although she has not paid her NI, everyone is entitled to some form of benefit when they're in these circumstances. If she gets nowhere with them, then perhaps the local Citizens Advice Bureau will help her.

Tell her I wish her all the best in her search for assistance.

Hey

Thanks I Will Let Her Know.

Would You Be Able To Tell Me When After The Op She Will Be Able To Have A Bath And Walk Up The Staires.

Thanks

Bathing will be a problem for sometime as she will not have the strength in her knees to get herself out of the bath. The social services, however, should provide here with a special stool to put across the bath so she can have a wash/shower. They will also give her a riser to put on the loo as getting down onto and up off a normal loo is also a problem.

As for getting up and down stairs, the physios should make sure she has the appropriate tuition how to manage that but it will be about 4-6 weeks before she can do it without a real struggle. That's why many on here have suggested getting a recliner chair to sleep in as being in bed is not the most comfortable place for some time after. I would have a word with the Red Cross or the St John's Ambulance and they often have a lot of stuff to rent out for periods for this kind of thing. don't know if they would have a recliner chair but there's no harm in asking.

josephine you just have to wait 3 to 6 months then you are going to normal stuff
