Clarrys,
I live in southern california and had a hip scope on Feb 1st. It was performed by my orthopedic hip surgeon who later did my right hip replacement.
My MRI arthrogram showed a small amount of arthritis and a possible labral tear. His plan was to do microfracture surgery and clean out the joint. He kept telling me before that he could not make any guarantees as he did not know what he would actually find.
Well , they did do the microfracture surgery (a procedure to try to grow some cartilage), but found widespread arthritis on the femur and the acetabulum. He told me then, the prognosis was not good and I would probably need a replacement in 6 months to a year.
I gave the arthroscopic procedure 3 months to heal (it never got any better), then decided to have the replacemnt on June 6th.
Let me know if you have any more questions
The nurses in the pre op room said they had not heard of many hip scopes being done.
