Hi Guys,
I remember 2 weeks ago (5 weeks post op) reading about how everyone sleeps and that I was saying that it was too painful to sleep on my operated side. Well things have changed so much since then.
I read that a few of you used a pillow between your legs to sleep on the unoperated side, and I tried it. I lay there for about 20 minutes. While I was laying there I felt comfortable enough, and my hip felt ok but after a while It felt as though my wound/scar and muscle were being sretched out, so in the end I went back on my back and fell asleep. When I woke up the scar area felt quite hot and when I looked at it the bottom of it did look a lot redder than it had done and all around the area was quite red and sore. It was like that for about 3 days.
I also tried to lie on the operated side and thought I felt something slightly click but not in a bad way. It was weird but it felt better somehow.
Now its 2 weeks later (7 weeks post op) and everything feels fine the wound/scar doesn't hurt at all apart from slight tenderness and a bit of a lump at the top, my muscle around the wound feels soft to the touch rather than hard and lumpy as it was before, and I can sleep on both sides with a pillow, the change within 2 weeks is amazing. I went back to physio last week and I was given a few more exercises to do on the bed, she said it was sooner than I should have them and not to push myself too far but she must have thought I was doing well. I mentioned that I thought my leg was a bit longer than the other, so she found my pelvis bones (I don’t know how, I have gained about a stone since my op) and said that she thought it was longer, and she could refer me to another clinic, but I said I would wait a while. I go for my 1st out patient appointment on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to seeing the x-rays and finding out what kind of hip I have, and asking when I can go back to work. All in all everything is great now, and I'm just looking forward to getting my life on track, then book some holidays. No stopping me then eh!!!
