THR Weird sensations and feeling of instability at times

I’m still very stiff from sitting too long and I’m still being really cautious with twisting. My right hip was not bone on bone, but it freakin feels like it now. I hope this passes, otherwise I’ll definitely try to get in for that hip this year. Has anyone else felt a rapid change in their “good” hip ?
Hi @dnordo220 , I had my left THR done in the beginning of June and still feel very stiff from sitting too long. When I stand up after sitting for a few hours, I need to stand still for a few seconds before I can start walking..
Like you, I also have problems in my right hip, though not yet totally bone-on-bone, and at my last appointment, my OS placed me on the waiting list for a THR later on. RIght now, I am not feeling any pain in that un-operated hip (there are good days and bad days, and I am going through a "good days" phase now I guess). I hope to have a year to train up my leg muscles before I have the next THR though as this will help in the recovery process.

@Boofit I have been trying to do that, wait a few secs before moving. Same with my un-operated hip, it’s not bone on bone, but it’s been giving out on me every so often. Part of me wants to wait, but part of me says do it now, so not to ruin 2023. I have a trip planned for March and I want to be healed and feel safe and comfortable going out of the country. I’m stiff baffled as to how I have such wear and tear on my hips.

@Zoebichon your incision is so small. Did you have Robotic surgery?
No, just anterior. My incisions are only three inches long! But I keep reading about everyone’s scars becoming thin and white within weeks. I am nearly 4 months, and my scar is still a very deep purple. Dr. Google says maybe I have a hypertrophic scar, which is harmless, just an overproduction of collagen.

@Zoebichon My scar is about 3.5 inches, I just measured it.
Hoping the top part flattens out it’s pretty light except for the top.

Your scar is so light! I’m a month ahead of you and my scars a so purple!

Scar is healing nicely and I'm sure it will flatten out given more time.
Visual will enlarge if clicked on...for those unaware.
I hope you have a nice Thursday and weekend!

@Zoebichon sometimes it looks purple - especially after I workout. I was in the sun a lot this summer, that might have blended it as well.

:hi:Happy Three Month Anniversary!
I hope you have a lovely weekend. :)

Yay 3 months post surgery ! Almost 11 weeks post dislocation. I told myself once I hit 12 weeks after dislocation I would feel like I was in a “safe” zone. I’m sitting being extra aware of movements but I’m doing almost everything I was before surgery. Interestingly enough, the only thing I really couldn’t do was walk. That’s probably the most important thing. lol. I can do that now ! The unoperated hip has good and bad days. More good than bad.

Today is Post 14 weeks ! Almost 12 post dislocation. Good a day off from work on Weds and biked outside 10 miles. Felt a little pain in my buttocks, I tried to be super careful. I was scared when getting off the bike but everything was good. I figured out how to get up and down on the floor, for ab/core work. Still being careful. I’m mostly pain free. Right hip gave out on me a few times but once I stretch and move around, it seems ok. I know it’s scary and hard to move, but that is what has made me recover quickly, even with the dislocation. That’s just me, everyone is different. Sleeping is still a pain, I have been on my side more with a pillow. Just taking it day by day.

Well it’s 16 weeks post surgery and I’m feeling great, EXCEPT, now my r hip is giving out on me and painful at times. Ugh. I’m going to call the office tomorrow and see if I can get looked at soon. It wasn’t bone on bone in May. But it feels like it now. Oh well.

I'm sorry. Hopefully you have more time before you need your right hip replaced. This is an all too common occurrence with us hippies it seems.
Best wishes you get an appointment soon, let us know how it goes.

Yep, afraid this was me after my RTHR. Was told my left was fine but at my 12 week post op review, I said I was getting pain in my left and the scan showed it was now also bone on bone (I had hip dysplasia). I lasted 3 months before asking to go on waiting list for surgery as I really didn't want to go through it again but knew it had to be done as all my progress and improvement on my right hip was wasted as I was back to square one with pain from the left. 10 months after the right being done, had my left done (almost 4 weeks ago). Not out of the post op pain/discomfort period yet but hoping it goes as well as the first and looking forward to the summer where, hopefully, with two shiny new hips, I'll finally get my left back!

I think you will find several of us who had that same problem —hip #2 deteriorated faster than expected after hip #1 was replaced. I waited two years but probably should not have waited as long as I did. Glad you are on the road to getting #2 taken care of.

@Kazza22 in May he said I’d probably need it, but it wasn’t causing pain . Today was a good day. I’m torn, because quite frankly I met my ridiculously high deductible and after the dislocation I’m close to 10k. So if I can get in before the end of the year I’d be happy. But I have a trip in March and I don’t want to risk injury Ugh , decisions decisions.

I suppose we are lucky in the UK - the NHS means we don't have to pay/claim insurance. On a negative, the waiting list can be very long. I waited a long time for my first, local hospital wouldn't operate because of my age (I was 46 when diagnosed) but switching hospitals helped and 3 years later I only waited 10 months for the first and 5 months for the second. I think I was very lucky though, once I got moved to the city hospital. Good luck with your decision, suppose there is probably never a good time but, long term, it will be worth the disruption

Oh ok, thank you. I’ll have a look and see what I think.

Sorry I can’t find the side bar adds. Please could you help?
I’m not very tech savvy
@Holiday .... I'm sorry that I didn't see your post until just now. If you haven't found the OneStep information page, here is a link for you.

Hello :wave:dnordo220
Happy Four Month Anniversary!
Wishing you a good week and a very Happy Monday!

5 months and I’m still feeling aches. When will that subside ? Going down the stairs in the morning is tough. It’s so weird. I’m the worst when it comes to stretching. I can do just about anything except for anything pounding, like jumping rope. . Any tips for feeling more normal, please share.
