Did anyone experience weight gain while on pain meds like Percocet? I have read that opiods increase your "sweet tooth" and I am sure the post surgical sedentary state of being does not help, but I have 10 lbs I would like to return to someone.

Don't pass that 10 lbs. to ME!!!

I took Hydrocodone and Darvoset and didn't experience any increase in hunger. Actually it was more the opposite....I didn't eat as much in the first month or so. But....unfortunately my appetite returned and so did the weight I had lost right after surgery.

Oh and here I thought the new joint weighed so much!
Guess not! But now that you're feeling better,,,,,get
Out there and walk those city streets!!! :)Just feel good,,,,,THAT'S
The most important thing!! :)

I wouldn't be surprised! I slept the clock round (almost) last night 11pm to 11am, had a shower, did one or two little jobs and some on here, then took some more pain meds at 3pm and slept till 6pm! I think I may sleep again in a few minutes!

Your body is taking care of YOU now, Jo!!!
Sleep well!!!!! You deserve it!!!:)

Glad it was not just me. What makes it so difficult is that by the time you need a TKR, you are no longer a teenager and the pounds gained are so very arduous to take off.

Hi there we were just talking on the other thread. So you said you are from New York...You were walkng in Manhattan at 16 days I think. That is terrific , probably hard with a normal knee. lol Do you go there alot.....Oh I hope your recovery is still going well..........

I did not lose weight or gain weight due to medication. I have gained an additional 5 pounds even though I am doing more and am watching my weight and exercising. What is the problem? It is my Thyroid gland! I had blood tests and a visit with my PCP and he upped the dosage of my thyroid medication and I have lost a pound in one week.
See if that is the issue.....
Best,

I have been on percocet for what seems like forever (multiple surgeries). I don't see any weight gain attached to it. I did take lyrica for a short time for nerve pain and did see weight gain with that med so I called and had my dr. wean me off that one.

Dang I would like to blame the meds but, I have to truthfull Last year's stress did me in First I stopped smoking, then 10 day after I decided to quit my Mom fell and went in to a coma and did not come out of it.(still did not smoke) 2 months after my Fathers last sibling died. And 2 months after that my Mom's last brother died. I have only 4 Aunts left.(My Mom's Sisters) So I seemed to have used food to make up for having a cig. And 50 pounds later my knee's said that it I'm out of here!!! It is not in our job contract to have to move you around with a extra 50ty pounds!!!! And now hopefully I will be able to lose this weight. LOL I don't know where to even start!! I have never had extra weight except when I was with child. And I was back to normal by 6 weeks. And my Husband is really having a hard time with my extra weight. Life is full of fun!! LOL

Calling, I am sorry for all your losses. Now that the knees have been shown what happens to those who give up, you need to be good to let them heal, then really use those new puppies!!!
I started on steroids last nite and I am going to try my best to not gain any weight. Someone has to take them and not gain right??? It should be me.

So sorry for your losses, Calling! But now you have to count your blessings! I think you really DO need a little furry puppy!

I am only five days post surgery, but everything I have eaten in the last week would fit on one paper plate with room left over. I have absolutely NO appetite. Even a photo of food makes me feel nauseous. My wife picked up some chinese food last night, and i tried to eat a couple strips of beef on the little skewers, but it tasted like warm road-kill. I managed to chew up two of them. But only because I know I need some nutrition.

The doc just prescribed a different pain med. I got hydrocodone/APAP when I got out of the hospital two days ago, and it really makes me feel bad. I think I am getting a prescription for Darvocet to try it out and see if it works any better. I don't know the difference.

Like you and many others, Calling, I tend to eat when I'm stressed. I was hoping to loose before my surgery and I did loose 20 lbs. but then I gained back 12 when hubby got back high PSA numbers. His biopsy isn't until June so I'll probably gain the remaining 8 lbs. before my May 18th date. Can't seem to win--or maybe I just can't seem to keep my mouth closed--LOL. I will at least TRY to eat healthy.
Blessings to everyone,
Irene
