I just found this web site. Wow awesome. I am a 51 year old and had my second THR 6 weeks ago. I should be an expert at this by now, but I seem to forget where I was a year ago when I did this surgery. I truly feel my recovery has been faster this time and the pain in my hip is totally gone. (unless I sit in one position for too long!) I am walking with just a cane and have full weight bearing, but I can't seem to be up for more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time without pain all the way up my back to my neck and shoulder.

I know that after the first surgery, my left leg was longer than my right and I have walked like this for a year. Now, my OS swears they are the same length, but try telling my back that. The right feels much longer! I think this is causing the back pain.

Has anyone else experienced this. At what point would it be safe to see a Chiropracter?

Hi Connie,

I was seen by my chiropractor when I was 6 weeks post op; which have worked for me. I was very uncomfortable; it was amazing how I felt once she made the adjustment.

Yes, by all means - I would think that was a reasonable time to make a visit. They will be very careful of your hip anyway.

Just got back from an appointment with my OS. He seems to think that the pain in my back is from the one leg previously being longer, and really felt that PT was the way to go. Also recommended the Pool. The best news is that I can DRIVE!! yea. FREEDOM.

I was so apprehensive with everything I did when I had the first THR. This second time around is much easier... and I was really worried.

Of course, what I should have said is that the sudden readjustment back to equal lengths will play your back up big time. Quite to be expected. Do go and see your chiropractor. He's the one that can sort it for you.

Hi Connie
Only just catching up on posts but reading this I was just like you infact after my 1st op I was convinced the OS had mad my leg too long! I had been so used to to walking with a limp my brain could't understand, I did get used to it but my back suffered so. The same has happened after this last revision, my back & neck/shoulders are so painful I need to train my body again. Doing lots of exercises to stimulate those receptors in the brain that have forgotten how to work, I know what I want to do and nothing happens, therapist says it will come back. He referred me for Hyrdotherapy, it's much easier in the water & hopefully will help. He has also mad a referral to my local sports centre for Pilates - whilst waiting for the referral to come through I have found a teacher who will do one-one with me, I get an hour or so and she watches me like a hawk so I can't cheat! The Pilates moves she gives are so gentle yet you have to be in control of those muscles, hopefully will help me,

Great that you are driving again and good luck with your PT & pool work.
