Finally, I am starting to feel almost normal. I am only taking one or two Tramdol a day, so the narcotic fog is gone!!! The pain is less--and the swelling is almost all gone.
My ROM is doing okay too--135/0, so now we can concentrate on getting stronger in PT. Today, I used the elliptical trainer, then the leg press, the standing hamstring and did lots of balance stuff while standing on wiggley cushions. When we went to the table to do the stretching and the leg lifts, I actually had sweat on my face!!!
Next week I can start riding my bike outside, and hopefully will begin to live again. Glacier National Park just opened--there was so much snow last winter, it took forever to plow and next week I will do my first hike--just 3 miles, it is an easy hike!! I am so excited, I just want to be outside with my friends. They will continue on for the other 10 miles of this hike, but at least I can start out with them.
I have been walking the dog in the woods--first one mile, now I can do two easily, but the path is fairly level. I just got out my hiking poles since I do not want to trip right now.
My pt is very encouraging at this point, says my knee is doing awesome. The next eight weeks in pt will only tryint to regain my fitness and strength. I have been swimming too---boy am I a horrible swimmer---for about 30 min each evening. I love to get into the pool and feel weightless. I can really see an improvement in the rom after starting the pool therapy.'
If you are struggling with that, it might be worth it to try the water. We have a therapy pool at our gym, the water is 70 degrees, pretty nice---and so comfortable for stretching. Sometimes i use the hot tub too, but I prefer the cooler water.
Thanks to all of you for the encouragement---I was not sure that I was going to make it to this stage, things seemed so bleak!! Thanks and it feels so good to be moving again!!!
