@pain free, please post only in this thread. I have put all your threads together into one. Just look for your title "Hello" and click on the date under the last person to post on your thread. We like to keep our members' recovery posts all in a single thread. That way it's easy for us to go back and read your history before responding to a question or concern. In addition, the thread becomes a journal of your recovery for those who come along later and want to read about you. So, please post in this thread from now on when you want to give an update or ask a question. If you have questions or concerns that need an immediate answer, please tag an admin, a mod, or other members or all three.
If you decide you'd like a different thread title at any point, you can change it using the Thread Tools button at the top right of the page or just post what you want here and we'll get it changed for you. THANKS!
I had a LTKR on Sept. 30. My hospital was a 2 hour drive. Please try and stop every hour to get up and walk around for a few minutes. You do not want to get a blood clot. Pain will be an issue that is for sure. No "good" pain med until was home and the prescription was filled by the pharmacy. I did have Extra Strength Tylenol for the journey. My hospital would not discharge for another hour if they gave me pain med. They had to reassess the pain 1 hour post administration. That would have put us home even later. Talk to physician to see what options you have for pain since you have a five hour drive. Make sure you have ice pack and pillow or something to elevate your leg. Maybe you can get the pain med prescription filled at the hospital pharmacy if they have one before you travel home.
@pain free How are you doing? The first few days can be a blur. A five hour drive home is something to plan for. If you can sit in a place where you can keep your leg elevated that will help considerably. My husband's car has a comfortable backseat where I could sit with my leg up on two pillows. You're in India, I'm in the USA. Here we must have seatbelts on when driving - I was able to easily have my seatbelt on AND have my leg elevated.
Good to see that you are at home. I was also in hospital for 7 days after surgery and then went to a Convalescent Centre that specialises in Post Hip & Knee surgery.
Luckily both hospital and Convalescent Centre are about ten minutes from my home, so didn't have your 5 hour drive.
You will find very good information on this site and more importantly great support.
Glad to hear you are at home, and are doing well, follow the Bonesmart Manta, Rest, Ice, Elevate, and Medicate on schedule.
Here are the recovery articles for you to read, you will need them all, they short and will not take long to read.
First are the BoneSmart mantras ....
- rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock
- if it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physiotherapist - to do it to you
- if your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again
- if you won't die if it's not done, don't do it
- never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lie down, never stay awake when you can go to sleep!
- be active as much as you need to be but not more than is necessary, meaning so much that you end up being in pain, exhausted or desperate to sit down or lay down!
hi..I am ok...stiff knees...but am active....feel a little feversih sometimes....must be exhaustion......i use the reliner a lot...night got a few pills..so I am sleeping ok...am wearing the stocking tho a bit uncomfortable..I am walking around around the house...
