My son took me out yesterday, and we had quite a long walk around a boating lake that we have here in Northants. I didn't realise how far round it was, but managed to do half way. I wasn't sure how far to walk really, as I didn't want to get all the way round and end up in an ambulance. Half way was quite enough, and then we had a coffee in the cafe. When I got home I put ice on my leg, and it seemed to be ok. I tottered about in the afternoon, and was none the worse for my trip out. Today I did my excercises, and a couple of the ones that I do need me to lay on my front, which is ok, but when I rolled back, I felt something pull in my back. So it looks like I have done a muscle in now in my back. I thought I was just getting somewhere, and then this happens. It's not too bad but still hurts. My knee seems to be coming along fine. I have got one problem though, and that is when I sit still in the evening, I have a very restless leg and I have to keep shifting about to try and get comfortable. Anybody else have this problem?

Some have suggested leaning against a heating pad for help with the restless legs..I did. It didn't work for me but felt good on the back!!

You a walking fool! Congrats! (sounds like a song huh Patti?)

Star, I have had restless legs on and off during my 8 weeks since surgery. The heating pad did work a lot of the time for me. Also, I have a bicycle here at home and I found if all else failed about 5 mintues on it always worked. I used to laugh at myself because I'd be up on the bicycle at all hours of the night - whenever that restless thing hit! If you don't have a bike, you might try some leg exercises....leg lifts and stretches. Anything to get those muscles thinking about something else besides making you miserable!!

Yeah thanks for the advise. I usually end up doing some sort of excercises when it happens.

JB - where do you place the stick pads for restless leg relief? I've tried it and it helped but I think if I did a better job of placement the TENS unit would help more.

And Star, I've had this problem for many weeks (I'm at 19 weeks PO) and it hasn't gone away yet. I do think when I do enough exercise and get into the hot tub, then take a warm shower, it is lessened. I sure hope it goes away soon!

Istick 2 of them on my buttocks helps my back then i stick 2 on my left knee just above the knee cap one on each side seems to help me i do it for 30 mins .....

JB - 2 you know where, made me laugh. Quite a picture. The instructions warn against using them with metallic implants so I was afraid to put them too close to my knee. Anyone know of any issues with TKRs and TENS units?

Are the other two on either side of the sacroiliac joint? I have some pain there. Hadn't thought to try TENS on it.

Sounds like a good question for Josephine.

Weird, My legs were just wiggling around about an hour ago..I'm too sore to get up and do more exercise. I leaned back against the heating pad and it stopped in about 10 minutes. It didn't work before.. Oh well I'll take what I can get.

I haven't read the instructions for my heating pad or considered any effects anything like that would have on a knee implant. Isn't is strange how many little things there are to consider now that we have new baby knees?

My physical therapists used TENS units on my knee routinely for pain control following my therapy. They would just circle my knee with the pads--- two spread out up above the knee on the quad muscle and two spread out down below on the whatever-that-one-is-called muscle. Close to the knee, but not actually ON my knee. I don't think it would feel very good (but have never tried it) to put the pads right over the metallic implant and then "shock" it.

They always just told me to "circle" the pain and if I didn't get the relief I was looking for to just move the pads around till it helped.

I have used mine more at home for my back than for my knee. My knees like ice and my back prefers heat and TENS.

I couldn't live without my heating pad. i use it all the time for all sorts of issues. In fact, wore the last one out and had to have an emergency trip to town to get another one!

My heating pat stays next to my chair..I think we have three in the house.
