Very good video of THR, notice they use a computer to get the leg length correct.

Enjoy!

Oh my gosh....no wonder we have so much pain! This was educational, but if I had seen it before my THR, I may have backed out!

Wow...thanks for sharing this link. I had MIS bilateral hip surgery 10 weeks ago and was having flashbacks. The surgeon kept me awake for the whole procedure....Now I know what all those noises were. My incisions are very small (like in the vid), but a lot went on in there. I also had the metal on metal large head type implant (as shown) and it is great to see all that had to be done correctly to make me fell this good again. Some people have characterized my THR procedure as kind of "cookie cutter" deal...this vid shows how much surgeon skill and expertise plays into the result. Thanks again!

How much pain 10 weeks after? I want to get both done at the same time, wife says I am crazy, I just cant see going through it twice.

No pain at all like pre-surgery. Just range of motion issues (still some) and muscle weakness up to about 10 weeks. I think that is the same with one hip of both. I am at 12 weeks now and do not feel anything... except what it used to feel like before arthritis...If I over do it, my muscles get sore....that is great feeling.

I felt the same way as you describe pre-surgery. I did not want to go through rehab and still be in pain...(still taking OTC pain meds every day)....and then have do it all over again. Plus I could not afford to miss that much work.

Best wishes.

Indeed, MIS/THRs are the way to go if you are prepared for the 'slight' increase in placement problems. IMO they MUST be done with the robot prosthetic placement - kind of like a missile guidance system! What the surgeon can't see he can't be sure of and xrays only show part of the story.

What is IMO? Some folks belive the Computer Assisted method is for surgeons that have not performed many of these.

IMO=in my opinion!
IMHO= in my humble opinion
IMVHO= in my very humble opinion

Not at all! In fact it actually takes quite a bit of skill and back-up skills (like a technician) to use it. My own take is that since the surgeon has a very restricted access and view of the upper end of the femur and the acetabulum, that the hazard of misalignment of the prostheses is greatly increased - which is why I would prefer it for myself. In fact, if you Google the procedure you will find as many articles urging caution as there are being enthusiastic about the procedure.
