Hi All,

Well, I am 61/2 months post tkr. Life for the most part is great. I am LOVING life again. I am having a scope on the left knee to clean it up because my doctor is trying to put off the replacement in that knee. This time I am dealing better with the pain than before I had, knowing that there is a end to it. I am not letting it stop me. So far this summer I have been swimming like a fish, went cliff diving, tubeing down the chatahootchie river. We are planning a week long trip were all we do is deep sea fishing we live on the boat and fish for out food. I havent been able to do it the last 2 times, and I cant wait to go and live life on the boat again. This group I go with we sarted the when we were 16 year old and we are 42 and still doing it once a year. It is so much fun we only bring bread veggies and conoments we fish for fish, and shell food for our meals. nothing like ultra fresh foods for lunch and dinner. I cant wait to go do it again. So after my adventures this summer I will start the new chapter in my life, repairing or replacing my left knee.

Hi there, June. Your report is spectacular! I shall keep it on tabs for when people say 'will my life ever be normal as a TKR?'!

Don't be a stranger though.

God bless

What a gift TKR is huh miss june? Enjoy your summer. It hasn't been to bad thisyear at all.

Junebug,
What a wonderful post! Like Josephine said that is the best thing I can hear right now! I am 8 days post op and while I know I made the right decision,
I do find myself throwing a pity party now and then. My favorite time of year is autumn. Every October we go to Gatlinburg Tennessee to leaf peep!
Then we return the first Friday in December for the big Christmas Parade. It is held at night and is beautiful. So to hear that you are out and doing these things again is such a inspiration to me!
By the time we usually go in the fall, I will only be 3 1/2 months out.
Then 5 months out by December. I am being hopeful.
Thanks for the update!

Carolina, I'm in CT and to hear you talk about going to Tennessee to leaf peep sounds sooo wierd. To me TN counts as the south and folks come here. And i imagine that by Oct./Dec. you will be so rocking and rolling!

Hi Jen,
That is one trip my hubby and I want to make one of these years.
To fly up to Maine and drive through New England to leaf peep! My daddy was from Waterville Maine, and I so want to go up there to see where he lived. I have seen pictures of your beautiful state in fall and it is breathtaking!
We are about 5 hours from Gatlinburg, and 2 hours from Myrtle Beach SC.
I have always loved the mountains.
Now I have a knee question :-) Ever since PT this morning (which lasted almost 2 hours!) my muscles have been jumping and boy the electrical shocks
running thru my leg!! Did you have this? My PT told me that as my nerves woke up this would happen. Well, they must be doing some serious waking up.
When he put me on the Game Ready machine (it ices the leg COLD,COLD)
he used the tens unit also. I am still unable to do straight leg raises, but was
able to move it more this morning. It was so good to see some improvement.

I had that a little bit. But nothing as strong as it sounds for you but I don't think yours is anything to worry about. We all have some variations even though we have so much on common. It is good to hear you are getting some movement back though. You'll get there. Maybe someone else experienced that sensation as much as you.

Hang in there - will settle down eventually. Try some massage - works wonders.

I remember my leg "jumping" in the beginning (almost like I was just falling asleep and all of a sudden my whole body would "jump". It didn't hurt, just happened real often. Until you just brought it up, I forgot about it and didn't realize that it has passed. I am 6 weeks PO. Makes sense about the nerves waking up, guess I never thought about it.

Just another phase of healing I suppose!

How much of that jump was related to the drugs? I would do like a startle type jump while dozing. I always thought it was the narcotics. Maybe I zapped more that i thought I did Carolina. After reading Laurie's post I'm wondering.

My legs have finally settled down. The muscles must have taken a break for the night. The shocks have stopped as well. I have been up all day and am really tired, so I am hoping I will sleep well tonight.

I am on Vicodin but I have never had it effect me like that before. My quad muscle was the one really jumping. It did not hurt at all though. I have only taken pain med today before therapy this morning and one this afternoon. I have taken Vicodin several times in the past and not had a problem. I think it was just related to the good workout at therapy and the tens unit. Which by the way felt good. Maybe the muscles are finally deciding it is time to get back to work!

I am a hippy, but I too remember the just falling asleep leg jumping. I was always afraid it would move far enough to cause a dislocation!!! I am at 5 weeks today. It happens very infrequently now.

Jennifer -

I guess that's more what it was - a startle while dozing, but hmmm.... they are no longer happening. Not exactly sure when they stopped, maybe it did coincide with stopping my Norco... Never put it together...

It probably was about the same time. It is a sensation I have had all thru the years when I'm in the early stages of "dozing", but this "jumping" happened quite often during my first weeks after surgery. I guess I didn't even realize that it had stopped, but it did happen for at least a couple weeks...

Nerve "awakenings" or narcotics... Josephine???

Laurie

I never had that happened post op. I still have some numbness on the lateral side of my knee. IT keeps on getting better each day. When I had the TKR I could not stand anyone touching it now I have no problem ith the touch issue now I wish I would get the rest of my feeling back. But hey great things comes to who wait

Josephine,I guess when it comes to us Great Minds Think Alike! I love sayings like that, the one I use most with my kids is win some loose most.

Another of my own 'amended' sayings (that I would say to the surgeons on occasion) is

"Your wish is my command

when I feel like it"!!!!
