Sorry I stopped posting for a bit. I got DH home on Friday and have been busy with him ever since. I think the reason they took DH off the morphine pump the morning after his surgery was that he it was making him nauseous. At least that is what the nurses were telling us. After leaving the hospital his pain level was pretty good at about 2½ and his ROM was 103. Today his pain level is about 7 and his ROM is 65.
The regular Physical therapist just left our house and both her and the regular nurse (who will seeing him on a regular basis at home until he sees the doctor again) are working on getting his pain meds where they should be. (I say “regular” because he was seen by a different PT and nurse over the weekend but neither will be back) He is only prescribed one dose of 325 MG Percocet every 4 hours. They both think he should be allowed two as pain dictates so the nurse is going to call the doctors office and get it fixed.
As for the doctor, the only time he saw DH I was in the room to make sure nothing negative was said. During most of his stay at the hospital he was seen by a Physician’s Assistant who had a very good bedside manner and was a big help for us. We have also been told since the surgery (by one of the temporary health care workers) that his doctor is a jerk. Normally you wouldn’t want to hear that about a doctor but since it is the same assessment I made then I’m ok with hearing it from someone else. I’ve decided the doctor has a god complex, is really good at what he does, and doesn’t feel DH posed enough of a challenge for him. As long as he did his job well I’ll let the rest go. Especially since everyone else working w/ DH right now is so positive. That is what counts the most.
The PT said his swelling was what is causing the low ROM. She got him on an ice/heat regiment that should help. And she has him laying down instead of sitting up like we were doing. We should be back to making good progress in no time.
Thank you for all of your support.
