Somewhere on this site I know I've seen a diagram and explanation of an uncemented knee replacement, but can I find it? Could anyone please point me in the right direction? Thanks Linda x
I can't recall such a discussion, Linda. But uncemented TKRs are pretty much the same as uncemented hips. They have a special porous surface which enourages the bone to grow into it. Naturally, this takes time but, as with hips, while some surgeons require non-wait-bearing for a short time post-op, other surgeons don't.
Was there a specific question you were looking to be answered?
Hi Frog,
Both of mine are uncemented also. I never had any restrictions on either of my uncemented knee Zimmer knee replacements. So far so good. Knock on wood!
:hehe:
Both of my knees are Zimmer uncemented knees. I was on limited weight bearing with the right knee two years ago. I was surprised when the doc told me weight bearing as tolerated for the left knee this summer. I asked if both were the same knee replacement and he said yes. The lower part has two long screws into the tibia. I have been very pleased with both of my knees.
I didn't know mine was uncemented till my six-month check-up on September 3rd. He may have told me while I was in the hospital, but with all those pain meds I was on, I really can't remember. :hehe:
I haven't been put on any kinds of restrictions, other than the "don't over-do" and "if it hurts, then stop" kind of stuff.
I haven't tried to kneel yet, because my scar hurts like crazy (at times) and I have this fear of getting down on the floor and not being able to get back up!
I keep getting the desire to try and kneel. I'm thinking I may plan it by using a pillow and two dining chairs to lean on so I can get up quickly if the need arises. I shall be so delighted to kneel again. I've missed doing 'carpet time' before my Lord.
I was able to kneel on my right knee around 14 months post-surgery. I can only kneel for a short period of time and then it becomes uncomfortable. I do carry a set of knee pads used in construction. They have a silicone cushion that helps a lot.
I joke with my wife about my laying down in the floor to see if I can still get up. I think I will wait a few more weeks before I actually try.
