Called my docs office Sunday to the answering service, noting I had a spurt of milky then clearish pink drainage upon flexion of the knee from a part of the incision and the PA did not seem terribly concerned. I on the other hand got panicked as there was enough drainage to be messy. Might be taking a drive to see the doc on monday...

good luck. Hopefully not a big deal but always better to ask.

My PT didn't think it was a big deal. Drainage is clear/pinkish, right near a tape blister on the incision. We're just watching it and the amount of drainage has decreased.

I had similar issues with my incision. I totally freaked. Assumed the worst. Knew I had a major infection and would need additional surgery, etc. Doctor said it was nothing to worry about, just keep it clean and put a bandage on it. Said it if was concering me, to come into the office. I went in, they removed the staples, said the places I was concerned about looked fine. They put tape over it to hold the incision in place. It was no big deal. I do understand your concerns, though. Always contact the doctor if you have any concerns or issues. God bless you. I pray your drainage lessens and causes no additional challenges for you.

Thanks Skeet --
Two weeks today since TKR...
Went to PT and exercises went well. Rode the exercise bike 15 minutes with actual resistance on the bike!
Drainage improved (less)
Range of motion: went from max of 107 on Friday to 116 today; but extension wasn't so good... lost some ground from Friday and only made it to +3 (was at -1 on Friday). So I have some homework to do...

That's the way it is. I think universally improvements are not steady in coming. Almost everyone you see posting here did a two steps forward one step back kind of progress.
Those are still pretty good numbers for a couple of weeks post op

Absolutely 2 forward 3 back and good day/bad day.

A couple of months back Gat described recovery as being similar to the stock market. Up and down.
Last week I hit a 5mi. walk..Today, it was a struggle to hit 2.5. Had to come home and take 1/2 pill and ice it..I'll let it play with me today cause I'm going to nail it tomorrow at the gym..

Oh skichick! What a scare! Always happens to staff! However, it sounds more like a superficial accumulation of lymph (blister!) to me - I think I have seen similar things before. Hope it dries and heals nice and quickly for you.

Work on that extension! I only say that because I'm 15 weeks and my extension is still at +3 and it does affect how you walk. I had a manipulation for my flexion and the doctor was not able to make any ground on the extension part. Don't let the hamstring tendons get too tight. This is the only thing that keeps me from walking normally.

Plus we're the same age and had a bunch of surgeries prior to this (I'm betting that is the case as it was with me).

Good to know Jo, because I had a tiny pimple type thing with white head near my incision and it's almost gone and healing. I decided to not panic about it. No fever, probably no infection. now i know what it probably was.

True...But to continue it that vein, "Sometimes you're the dog. Sometimes you're the hydrant".

hehe! That reminds me of my avatar on CF

The mouse-over reads "Sometimes you're the seagull and sometimes you're the fish!"

Which you may recall - if you watched it - is a quote from "Finding Nemo".

I've seen a poster similar to jo's gull & fish picture. It's a frog in the grips of a stork and says "Never give up!"

I watched "Finding Nemo" again the other night..

I had that happening to me. I had to have swabs taken, but everything turned out fine. I have still one spot on the whole of the scar that tends to get like it. I have one big scab on my car that catches on the horrible stockings that we have to wear. The top of scab came off and it wept again. But has dried up now, although it is a little deeper into the scar. I don't think there is a problem, but just keep an eye on it, as I have done. Not bad having just one yukky part out of 42 staples i suppose.
